WALMART BASS FISHING LEAGUE PREVIEW FOR SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 28
Advisory for Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2015
WHAT: The 2015 Walmart Bass Fishing League continues its tournament season with three tournaments the weekend of Saturday, Feb. 28, 2015. The Bama Division tournament will open their season on Lake Eufala, the Cowboy Division kicks off on Sam Rayburn Reservoir and the North Carolina division makes their first stop of the year at Lake Norman. Up to 400 boaters and co-anglers will be competing for top awards of up to $8,000 and $3,000 respectively in the one-day events.
WHEN: Saturday, Feb. 28, 2015
Bama Division
Lake Eufala
Lakepoint Resort State Park
104 Lakepoint Drive
Eufaula, Ala.
Hosted by Eufaula Barbour County Chamber of Commerce and the City of Eufaula
NOTES: The bass fishing on Lake Eufala is expected to be good. Local anglers report throwing Texas-rigged plastics as well as crankbaits on top of ledge drops is producing good bites. Fishing banks with spinnerbaits and Rapala Shad Raps was also scoring some quality weights recently for anglers. Competitors who target the lower lake creeks and ledges will most likely be seen using both Texas- and Carolina-rigged soft plastics. The winner of this tournament is expected to bring in a five-bass limit nearing 21 pounds.
Cowboy Division
Sam Rayburn Reservoir
Umphrey Family Pavilion
5438 Rural Route 255 W.
Brookeland, Texas
Hosted by Jasper County Development District
NOTES: The fishing on Sam Rayburn Reservoir is expected to be excellent for this late-February tournament. Local fishing reports indicate that bass are being caught on watermelon red-colored soft plastics and crankbaits. A popular pattern for this tournament will be fishing the drains and grass flats with Rat–L–Traps. Anglers will also be seen tackling the popular natural cover like stumps and deep grass that is commonly found on Sam Rayburn. Five bass totaling 26 pounds will most likely take this tournament.
North Carolina Division
Lake Norman
Pinnacle Access Area
Highway 150
Mooresville, N.C.
Hosted by Mooresville Convention & Visitors Bureau
NOTES: Lake Norman is expected to fish well this tournament. This time of year bass generally rise to the surface looking for warmth from the sunlight, so casting lures along sunny banks could be a popular pattern in this tournament. Lipless crankbaits and jerkbaits will most likely be the most popular baits of choice among anglers. The winner of this tournament is expected to bring in a five-bass limit nearing 16 pounds.
The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, with 120 tournaments throughout the season, five in each division. The top 50 boaters and co-anglers from each division qualify for a regional tournament and are competing to finish in the top six, which then qualifies them for one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the Walmart BFL All-American. The 2015 BFL All-American is being held June 18-20 on Kentucky Lake in Buchanan, Tenn. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the Rayovac FLW Series or even the Walmart FLW Tour.
