RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. (Aug. 4, 2015) – The Rayovac FLW Series is headed to Lake Dardanelle August 13-15 for a tournament presented by Mercury when as many as 300 pros and co-anglers will take to the water for the third and final stop of 2015 in the Central Division.
“Lake Dardanelle has a lot of bass in it and they’re catching them,” said Walmart FLW Tour pro Robbie Dodson of Harrison, Arkansas. “Recent tournament winners on the lake have needed over 20 pounds to win so it’s going to be an exciting tournament for everyone involved.
“If I had to make a guess as to where this event will be won, it would most likely be on the Arkansas River,” Dodson continued. “Anglers will probably be up shallow flipping jigs into the grass or throwing a frog into lily pads, if the high waters haven’t washed them away. I see hydrilla and bank grass playing a role as well. If I were to grab some baits and head out there today, I’d be reaching for swim jigs or frogs of the black and blue variety. They tend to do well in these conditions.
“Another popular pattern will be fishing out deep on the main lake using Carolina-rigged worms and football-head jigs,” said Dodson. “But, I don’t think there will be enough weight in those areas to win it. A good idea would be to fish the current to try and round out the pattern.”
When asked about a winning weight, Dodson said a three-day-cumulative weight nearing 55 pounds should take the top honors.
“18 pounds a day should be enough to be in contention for the win,” said Dodson. “But I know someone will find those 20-pound bags. They’re definitely in this lake.”
Anglers will take off from the Lake Dardanelle State Park ramp located at 2428 Marina Road in Russellville at 6:30 a.m. CT each day. Weigh-in on days one and two will be held at the marina beginning at 2:30 p.m. Weigh-in on day three will take place at Walmart located at 2409 E. Main St. in Russellville at 3 p.m. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.
Pros will fish for a top award of $40,000 plus a Ranger Z518C with a 200-horsepower Evinrude or Mercury outboard if Ranger Cup guidelines are met. Co-anglers will cast for a top award consisting of a Ranger Z117 with 90-horsepower Evinrude or Mercury outboard and $5,000 if Ranger Cup guidelines are met.
The Rayovac FLW Series consists of five divisions – Central, Northern, Southeast, Texas and Western. Each division consists of three tournaments and competitors will be vying for valuable points in each division that could earn them the opportunity to fish in the Rayovac FLW Series Championship. The 2015 Rayovac FLW Series Championship is being held Oct. 29-31 on the Ohio River in Paducah, Kentucky.
