Outlook for June 2017

[print_link]

BASS- The top water bite is in full swing and the fish are hungry. Look for active fish around willow grass, rocky points, rip rap banks and boat docks. There is a second blue gill spawn going on and they are aggressively chowing down on bluegill.

Buzz baits, walking baits, frogs and poppers will all catch fish early and late in the day. Once the sun is up, move out to deeper water or around boat docks with shakey head rigged plastics, carolina rigged plactics and medium running crankbaits.

If fishing uplake try pitching jigs, creature baits and worms to the emerging willow grass once the sun is high in the sky. A spinnerbait will still catch a lot of fish on windy, rainy and cloudy conditions.

As we move towards the end of the month, the deep bite will take over and brush piles, bridge pilings and rock piles will be great choices to start your day out on. Deep diving crankbaits like the Norman DD22 and Strike King 6XD will be go to choices. Large Texas Rigged worms and Jig & Pig Combos will also play into your day.

CRAPPIE- The Specks are done spawning and they have made their way back out to deep water for the summer. Bridge pilings will play a major role for those wanting to catch them during the hot water months.

Although they will still chase and bite artificial baits, your best bet is to use a small minnow rigged under a slip bobber or just on a jig head for best results.

Two inch curl tail grubs rigged on a 1/16oz jig head can produce many fish for you under the right circumstances. They will bite a variety of colors, we all have our favorite colors and here are a few of mine….. John Deere Green (Tractor Green), Wally World, Green Weenie and Electric Chicken.

STRIPER- The line sides have moved back down to the mid lake region and at first light are breaking and chasing shad to the surface. Broken back redfins are my favorite, but a four inch swimbait rigged on a 1/4oz jighead will also produce.

After the morning feed heads back to deeper water, look for them on your electronics and vertically jig them up with blade baits or spoons.

Trolling deep diving redfins with bucktail trailers and DD22’s have been working well for anglers. Live Shad and Herring will also produce many catches. We have had several reports of keeper size (20″) “WIPERS” caught lately as well.
