Friday started with teams arriving to the Olde Towne Centre in Boydton, Va around 5pm to start registration. Besor Fellowship were our gracious hosts and provided a wonderful Spaghetti dinner, complete with salad and dessert. We were entertained with music from Broken Veil before the message started. Pastor Jakie from Union Chapel Baptist provided a moving message to remember where God has brought us from and where He is taking us to. He let everyone in attendance know while we are spiritually dead without Jesus, we can all be alive in Him. 28 of our 33 signed up teams attended the meeting and we had 4 recommitments to Christ! We finished with raffling off gear and tackle from our supporters, drew boat # 1 from commitment cards and announced the rest of the boat numbers. The teams were out and off to prep for Saturday before 7:30!
Saturday was a little chilly at launch for the 33 teams competing, and with a total wind speed and direction change overnight the fishing ended up a little tough. There are always teams that get on the bite though and the team Ryan Roller and Garry Colwell brought in a winning bag of 19.55lbs including the event big fish of 5.85lbs, they were rewarded with total winnings of $1590! Bill and Josh Bailey were second with 17.20lbs and the first place Bonus Bucks team. Third went to Allen Walden and James Hendrick with 16.99, they also had second place Bonus Bucks.
Rounding out the top 5 were fourth place team Clay Lewis and Brent Eader, and fifth place team Pedro Lavin and Eddie Richardson.
I want to send a sincere thank you to all the teams that showed up to kick this year off right. As my first year and first event as director all of the teams were fantastic in their support of this trail and in their patience as I worked through a few inevetable hiccups. Also Thanks goes to John Snincak for his guidance through the event. It was a humbling experience and I hope to see all of you at the rest of the events!
Off to Lake Anna on 4/28, Lets keep this momentum rolling!
