Choosakul wins on Kerr Lake[print_link]

Kay “KC” Choosakul came out on top at Kerr Lake Saturday 18 August, with the winning stringer of 11.91 pounds. “It was cloudy and windy for the most part of the day, so I went to the backs of creeks that had wind blowing into them and fished laydown wood with a spinnerbait,” said Choosakul.  KC took home $543 for the win today. In second with 11.12 was Randy Ruffin. Randy had the big fish of the event with a very nice 6.18 pound largemouth. Rounding out the top three for this event was John Gillis at 8.62 pounds.

This was the final qualifying event for the Virginia division of the AFT. Anglers are reminded you must have fished four qualifying events to be eligible to fish the division championship September 8 and 9 on the Chickahominy and James rivers. The tournament will launch from Chickahominy Riverfront Park, just west of Williamsburg, Virginia. Those four events can be from any division across the country.

The division race for angler of the year tightened up at this event with only two points now separating the top leaders, Richard Bates and John Gillis. That’s only one place difference at the divisional championship! Close on their heels is Calvin “Catfish” Hunter five points back in third.  All will be resolved at the division championship September 8th and 9th.
