TBA Outdoors to Sponsor the Herman Lucerne Memorial Backcountry Fishing Championship This September

ORLANDO, FLA., September 17, 2018 —After the tournament’s 2017 edition was cancelled due to Hurricane Irma, anglers nationwide are especially excited for the start of the 2018 Herman Lucerne Memorial Backcountry Fishing Championship. Held at the Islander Resort in Islamorada, Florida, from September 21 to 23, this tournament features a weekend of fishing for seven different species in Everglades National Park. Founded in 2000 by Homestead Hospital and Dr. Lloyd Wruble of Miami, the Herman Lucerne Memorial Backcountry Fishing Championship honors Herman Lucerne, a pioneer and legend in backcountry fishing in Everglades National Park. The tournament, limited to the boundaries of Everglades National Park, is a unique and challenging two-day, “catch and release” event that welcomes anglers of all skill levels — both young and old, and male and female. The seven species to be caught are: snook, snapper, redfish, sea trout, bonefish, tarpon and black drum. Anglers may use live bait, artificial lures or fly tackle, and may be guided or unguided. The tournament produces a grand champion, six top anglers, team champions and six division champions. Awards are given in 22 individual categories at the ceremony hosted at the Islander Resort.
To top it off, folks have the opportunity to not only help the Everglades, but also have the chance to win a brand-new Evinrude E-TEC G2 outboard motor.
