Oklahoma State University Wins Abu Garcia College Fishing presented by YETI Tournament on Fort Gibson Lake

WAGONER, Okla. (July 13, 2020) – The Oklahoma State University team of Rhett Meyer of Stilwell, Oklahoma and Jake Biram of Tulsa, Oklahoma, won the Abu Garcia College Fishing presented by YETI at Fort Gibson Lake event Friday with a five-bass limit weighing 19 pounds, 14 ounces. The victory earned the Oklahoma State bass club $2,000 and qualified them to compete in the 2021 College Fishing National Championship.

The Cowboys duo won by a comfortable 2-pound, 9-ounce margin over the second-place team of Derek Pietsch and Trey Dawson from Texas A&M-Galveston, who weighed in five bass totaling 17 pounds, 5 ounces. The tournament launched from Whitehorn Cove Marina in Wagoner, Oklahoma.

The top 10 teams that advanced to the 2021 College Fishing National Championship are:

1st:       Oklahoma State University – Rhett Meyer, Stilwell, Okla., and Jake Biram, Tulsa, Okla., five bass, 19-14, $2,000

2nd:      Texas A&M at Galveston – Derek Pietsch, Montgomery, Texas, and Trey Dawson, Montgomery, Texas, five bass, 17-5, $1,000

3rd:       Lamar State College – Grady Doucet and Trent Buchholz, both of Beaumont, Texas., five bass, 17-1, $500

4th:       Rogers State University – Ty Crutchfield, Inola, Okla., and Alec Murphy, Claremore, Okla., five bass, 16-11, $500

5th:       Oklahoma State University – Dexter Flick, Stillwater, Okla., and Cameron Simmons, Owasso, Okla., five bass, 15-14, $500

6th:       Angelo State University – Lance Culak, San Angelo, Texas, and Steven Armstrong, Brownwood, Texas, five bass, 15-13

7th:       Texas A&M-Commerce – Augustus McLarry, Quinlin, Texas, and Dawson Cassidy, Gainesville, Texas, five bass, 15-13

8th:       East Texas Baptist University – Grant Hendrix, Livingston, Texas, and Josh Manuel, Burleson, Texas, five bass, 15-12

9th:       Northeastern State University – Bo Adams, Henryetta, Okla., and Jeremy Tolle, Bixby, Okla., five bass, 15-6

10th:     University of Nebraska – Charlie DeShazer, Lincoln, Neb., and Hunter Suchsland, Kearney, Neb., five bass, 15-4

The Abu Garcia College Fishing presented by YETI event on Fort Gibson Lake was hosted by the Wagoner Area Chamber of Commerce. It was the first of three regular-season qualifying tournaments for Southern Conference anglers. The next event for College Fishing anglers will be July 31 at the Abu Garcia College Fishing presented by YETI at Lake Erie in Sandusky, Ohio.

Abu Garcia College Fishing presented by YETI teams compete in regular-season qualifying tournaments in one of five conferences – Central, Northern, Southern, Southeastern and Western. The top ten teams from each division’s three regular-season tournaments and the top 20 teams from the annual Abu Garcia College Fishing Open advance to the following year’s Abu Garcia College Fishing presented by YETI National Championship.
