THE ART OF JIG FISHING FOR BIG BASS! by FRESH BAITZ

Date:

The art of jig fishing is a technique that has been used for decades to catch bass, and it is especially effective when using soft plastic baits. Jig fishing involves using a jighead, which is a weighted hook with a lead head, and a soft plastic bait such as WormsScorpions, HellaMites, Beetles, or even CrayCraws. The jighead is designed to mimic the look and movement of a live bait, which makes it an attractive option for bass. One of the benefits of using soft plastic baits for jig fishing is that they can be fished in various ways. They can be fished on the bottom, in the middle of the water column, or even on top of the water. This versatility allows anglers to target bass in different types of cover and structure, such as rocks, logs, and weed beds. Soft plastic baits can also be fished in a variety of retrieval methods, such as a slow and steady retrieve or a really fast and jerky retrieve tactic. You want to use bait that bass simply can’t resist. We use our Fresh Scorpion because it closely imitates a crawfish. Our Fresh Scorpion paired with a Stand-up jig is deadly… This bait will actually sit upright in a defensive stance! The Scorpion is a revolutionary new look to soft plastics. This bait not only appears natural to fish but gives them something to become curious about. Each Fresh Scorpion has a unique and exclusive 3-axis tail design that is engineered like no other soft plastic bait. Made from high-grade non-salt plastic to provide superior life-like action that triggers MORE strikes! Scented for complete attraction!
Texas rig is a popular rigging method for fishing with soft plastic baits like CrayCraws, Scoprions, Beetles, HellaMite, and Worms. The rig involves threading the bait onto a hook, then slipping a bullet weight onto the line above the hook, followed by a bead. This method allows anglers to fish the bait on the bottom, around structures, and through heavy cover. The weight of the bullet allows the bait to fall naturally, mimicking the movement of a live bait, making it an effective technique! Carolina rigging is another rigging method for fishing with soft plastic baits in the winter. Similar to the Texas rig, but it uses a longer leader between the weight and the hook. Allows the bait to move freely, creating a more natural presentation. The Carolina rig is particularly effective when fishing in deeper water or around structure, as the longer leader allows the bait to reach greater depths. Our Fresh Beetle delivers ultimate versatility in a soft plastic bait. We’ve recently released Green Pumpkin and Watermelon Red Beetles. Its slim yet wide body design and four claws are engineered to naturally glide and wobble as it moves through the water. The hyper-active swimming claws are designed thin with non-salt plastic to make them come alive with the slightest movement. The Fresh Beetle offers an enticing 4-inch profile and is scented for complete and total attraction! In Fall the best colors to use are PoisonNaturalBlack & BlueOx BloodWhite Lightning, and Green Pumpkin Beetles. You can rig these Beetles as a Jig/ Chatter Trailer, Flippin/ Punching, Texas Rig, Swing Jig, and even a Carolina Rig.
Ned rigging worms are a popular method of fishing using a soft plastic worm rig. This technique involves using a small jig head, usually weighing between 1/16 and 3/16 ounces, and rigging it with a small soft plastic worm. The worm is then presented to the fish in a natural, undulating manner, mimicking the movement of a live worm. Hellgrammites, also known as HellaMites, are aquatic insects that are often used as bait for fishing. They are commonly found in rivers and streams and are known for their strong and durable body. They can be used as live bait or as a source of scent for lures. They are particularly effective for catching large trophy bass! It is also considered a finesse technique, which means it can be effective in situations where fish are less active or have become pressured by anglers, and can be used with a variety of soft plastic such as Worms, HellaMite, and creatures baits. Using a stick-styled worm is the most tried and true ways to catch fish. We have a wide variety of 5-inch Fresh Worms to choose from, but we’ve recently released new 6-inch Worms that catch some trophies. CharmeleonRainbow TRTBoneChocolate Mint, and Fire TGR are all available in 5 and 6-inch. The high-grade non-salt plastic they’re made from provides positive buoyancy and it even floats underwater! Colors like Black & Blue, Smoke Purple Shad, and Bone White work perfectly during winter due to the baits color change. We also offer worms that have the unique ability to shift from one color to another under different lighting conditions. Each Worm is scented for complete and total attraction and made in the USA by anglers just like you!
A wacky rig is a rigging method that can be highly effective for catching winter bass using soft plastic baits. The technique involves rigging the bait on a hook through the middle of the bait, making it appear like a live worm. This rigging method is particularly effective when fishing in clear water, as the natural movement of the bait can entice bass to bite. Anglers can use a variety of soft plastic baits for this method, and can also add a small amount of scent to the bait to make it more attractive to the fish. Shaky head fishing is a technique that can be highly effective for catching winter bass using soft plastic baits. The technique involves rigging the bait on a jighead and slowly shaking it on the bottom, mimicking the movement of live bait. This technique is particularly effective when fishing in heavy cover or around structures, as the slow movement of the bait can entice bass to bite. To make the bait more lifelike, anglers can add a small piece of a worm or soft plastic bait to the hook. We have a wide variety of terminal tackle to choose from. Our favorites for worms are always the Block Head Jig, Shakey Ultrahead, The Ultrahead Wacky Jig Head, and of course Mosquito Hooks. The Block Head Jig is perfect for ned rigging with its mushroom-style head that matches seamlessly to a wide variety of soft plastic worms and other small baits. The Shakey Ultrahead can permanently secure baits by inserting the pin in the center and screwing the twist lock coil spring for perfect rigging every time! The Ultrahead Wacky Jig features precise weight positioning and hook orientation for the ultimate wacky presentations. Also comes with an ideal weed guard for fishing thicker cover such as grass weeds. Mosquito Hooks work for drop-shotting and are designed to accommodate a wide range of soft plastics. For Scorpions, Beetles, and CrayCraws we love to use the Stand-Up Jig because it sits your bait up-right in a defensive stance!
