Today marked the commencement of the eagerly-awaited first BFL Piedmont Division event, with the angler community descending upon Smith Mountain Lake. As has become a tradition for our brave anglers, over 85 of them willingly stood against the downpour, all in a bid for victory.
Amidst the relentless showers, it was Broderick Luckey who emerged victorious, securing his (hopefuly first of many) significant win on the homebody. His triumph yielded him a prize money that comfortably exceeded the $3,500 mark – a testament to his skill, perseverance, and dedication.
Meanwhile, co-angler, Matt Russell, hailing all the way from Maryland, also displayed a fabulous performance. Weighing in at 16.05 lbs, his catch & winning top co-Angler honors, he went home with a check worth $2,373.
As the day wound down, the scales mirrored the predictions. As always, the sun made its long-awaited appearance only when the competition ended, bringing a close to a day of intense but rewarding fishing.
Congratulations are in order for everyone who managed to cash a check. Regardless of the result, their dedication and spirit of competition deserve praise. We hope that you enjoy the photos & interviews below.
