Trika: Taking It to The Next Level
Bruce Callis Jr

Fishing is about having fun. And we even extend that fun into tournaments. We want the best equipment to help us achieve success. Rods and reels represent critical instruments for anglers. They are required to maintain consistent performance through repeated casting, daily operation, and diverse weather conditions. And we want them to relay information to us, to become a part of us.

The rod serves as the means by which we detect what our baits encounter in the water and subsequently battle our prize fish to either the boat or the bank. The more sensitive it is, the more we can tell about what is happening under the water. For that, the new Trika rod is just the answer.

I had the opportunity to test out the Trika Crankbait series and the 6X series paired with the Trika Ti100 baitcasting reel. I was truly amazed at just how exceptional they are. But let’s talk about the rods first.

The Trika Crankbait series features premium materials and has a tuned moderate-fast action. I used the 7’4” Medium Heavy Moderate Fast rod to launch my crankbait a long distance. This rod is so sensitive that you can feel everything you bump into. I could feel when my bait picked up a small leaf or blade of grass. With a lot of rods on the market you might know you hit something, but with the Trika rod I was able to tell small branches and baitfish, and knew the difference between them. They are that sensitive. With that sensitivity comes power. It can handle the big bass with ease, keeping the bait pinned in their mouth during the fight. I could feel the bass dig and shake its head.

The 6X is built the same way. I was able to launch my bait with ease and I could feel every little bump through the rod. It is feather light, but don’t let that fool you. The 7’ Medium Heavy/ Fast Action rod it what I put to the test and I was amazed. The rod itself weights in at just 4.2 ounces and it handles 3/8 to 1 ounce baits with ease. The Fuji Alconite guides are top quality. And the unique rod wrap allows you keep a firm grip on it. What really sets the rod apart from it’s competitors is the groundbreaking EkkoChamber + Axial Weave Technology which results in a lighter and longer casting rod. It amplifies vibrations into your hand, so you feel every underwater movement. A truly amazing feel in your hands.

And I was able to test out the Ti100 reel to really have a true understanding of what the pair does together. The reel is light, 5.5 ounces, and machined from billet aluminum. It really feels so good in your hand. When you get it, you can feel the smooth full ceramic ABECS7 bearings by just spinning the spool. The ceramic bearings last 20 times longer than stainless steel and spin faster for longer effortless casts. And it has titanium components for an incredible strength to weight ration.

It also has a mirror polished titanium brake pad that is corrosion resistant and dissipates heat faster for a consistent smooth drag. That means that you can make really long casts and be able to fight a big bass back to you with ease. No worries about the drag grabbing on you during the fight. And each reel comes with a reel cover to protect your reel from the normal rod locker box rash. I tried the 8.1:1 and the 7.1:1 reels and never had a problem with them fighting big bass.

I was totally blown away with the quality of the Trika rods and reels and can’t wait to try their spinning reels along with the 10X rods and the new X series with classic cork. If you are looking to up your game, give it to Trika to take you there.
