Getting in shape for 2011! By Will Petty

Date:

Each year, I see the importance of being in better shape for the upcoming tournament season more and more.  I’m not saying you have to be as in shape as a cage fighter but also you don’t want to be telling your buddies at the ramp that “round is a shape also.” I feel that being in shape allows you to focus on fishing instead of the aches and pains that sometimes come with fishing and makes it a more enjoyable experience.
Starting around the new year, I start getting in shape by working on my lower back, abdominal areas, shoulders, and running.  All of these areas are very important to fishermen and I feel that by strengthening these areas that you will be more efficient on the water.  Another way being in shape while on the water helps efficiency is because it frees your mind up to concentrate on making sound decisions instead of thinking about how sore your back or how much it hurts to heave that Little John DD all day.  Couple being in better shape and eating healthier while fishing and I know you will have a more productive, and less painful, year on the water!
