Tulsa, Okla. – Lowrance®, a world-leader in fishing electronics since 1957, announced today that Lowrance Pro Dustin Connell claimed the Bassmaster Rookie of the Year by finishing 24th in points overall with 60 pounds, 13 ounces on Sunday, September 17, 2017. Connell’s closest competition, Lowrance Pro Jamie Hartman finished in 48th place with 41 pounds, 7 ounces. That allowed Connell to win the Rookie of the Year race by the thinnest of margins, 765-764 – the fifth time in the last six years a Lowrance angler has received Bassmaster Elite Rookie of the Year honors.
“When going to new bodies of water, my Lowrance units help me get dialed in quickly and find fish faster,” said Connell. “My Lowrance units helped me have an incredible rookie season on the Bassmaster Elite Series. I used my Lowrance units as much as I used my fishing rods, whether it’s in 3-4 feet or 20 feet of water. First I look for the baitfish, then the bass; and once I see bass on my screen, I throw the bait in and catch them.”
Connell’s first victory as a Bassmaster Elite pro came at the Academy Sports and Outdoors Bassmaster Elite at Ross Barnett earlier this year, where he finished with a total weight of 64 pounds, 13 ounces.
“Whether a beginner, long-time professional or an angler starting out on a successful career, Lowrance is proud to be the fishfinder/chartplotter of choice, selected by so many to enhance their time on the water,” said Leif Ottoson, CEO, Navico. “We’d like to congratulate Dustin, Jamie and all of our professional anglers.”
