It was like fishing in July again!!! 52 boats arrived to vie for the 1st Place award in the Cashion Fishing Rods Spring Team Tournament Bass Trail Qualifier #1 at Shearon Harris Lake. The weather was just like last February with winds light & variable in the am and up to 11 mph in the afternoon, the air temps ranged from 59 to 76 and the water level was about 2′ low. Surface water temps were 60 to 65 degrees depending where you were on the lake! The fish were on the banks in 2 to 4 foot of water but were hard to catch.
Todd Massey, fishing without his partner Brandon Gray, found 5 good bass weighing a total of 34.20 lbs to take 1st Place, 1st Place TWT, 1st place Big Fish and also $500 from The Triton Gold Contingency Program for a total of $3,087 in prize money! 1st Place Massey on right. The 2nd Place team of Jamie Fajardo & Josh Hooks caught 4 bass weighing 24.53 lbs. and along with winning the 2nd Place TWT and 2nd Place Big Fish (7.39) they took home $1,269 in winnings. The 3rd Place team of Paul Owens & Tyler Faggart (defending champions) presented 5 bass weighing 17.07 lbs. to rack up $541 in winnings.
With the slot limit rules enforced at Harris, only 61 bass were brought to the scales for a total of 227 pounds averaging 3.73 lbs. each. Shallow running crankbaits, chatterbaits, jerk baits & Jigs in the more shallow waterseemed to be the lures of choice.
I want to thank Cashion Fishing Rods and all the anglers that participated. Our next tournament will be the 2018 PBC Academy Sports & Outdoors $10,000 Spring Team Bass Trail Qualifier #1 , Saturday March 3rd also at Shearon Harris out of Cross Point Landing Wildlife Ramp.
