Athens, Al –  Reid McGinn of Fort Mill, SC won the American Fishing Tour division 14 tournament on Lake Norman in Mooresville, NC with five fish weighing 8.94 pounds held on 05/12/2018.

It was a warm start on Lake Norman with temperatures in the upper 60’s and winds out of the SW at 5 mph.  A field of 15 anglers turned out to fish, and face tough post spawn conditions.  The anglers enjoyed sunny skies throughout the day, with temperatures topping out in the mid 90’s.  Water conditions varied throughout the lake with stained water from upper lake to mid lake, and gin clear conditions on the south end of the lake. Water temps varied from the low 70’s to low 80’s depending on where you were on the lake.

Despite tough conditions, Reid McGinn of Fort Mill, SC was able to put together a winning strategy. He reported starting his morning fishing shallow with a variety of baits. After a couple of keepers early and his shallow bite drying up, Reid moved off shore and was able to finish out his limit in the 20 foot depth range.  Reid earned himself $432.00 for his efforts, and valuable points towards an invite to the National Championship on Lake Hartwell in October of this year.

Our other top anglers were 2nd place, James Barber of Charlotte, NC with 5 fish weighing in at 8.67 pounds, worth, $223.00.  James also took big bass honors with a 3.64lb largemouth worth, $75.00.  3rd place went to Richard Bradford of Hoffman, NC with 5 fish weighing in at 8.30 pounds, worth $79.00.

Congratulations to our top finishers.  Division 14’s next event will be our two day divisional Championship on Lake Norman out of McCrary Creek Access on June 2nd and 3rd.  In order to fish the two day Championship you must have fished at least 4 one day divisional events.  We will crown a champion and find out who will take the divisional Angler of the Year title.  Should be an interesting race with our top two point holders tied for the lead and a couple more anglers just a few points behind them.  Look forward to seeing you there.
