Largemouth Bass update:
As water temps in the Maury rise into the low-to-mid 70’s, the largemouth population in the Maury dive deep in the holes, particularly in the flatwater stretch near Buena Vista. Anglers are afforded opportunities for a mega largemouth catch fishing deep pool behind boulders, and in the deep current channels, 10-14ft or deeper in some places. Grab a big 10” worm, or your favorite ned rig or jig, and let it do the work for you.
Smallmouth Bass update:
Feisty smallmouth season is upon us, as the highly active bass in the Maury start moving, hunting in small packs or even alone, feeding on crawfish, and enjoying a bounty of bugs on the water surface. Mid-river patterns are alive and well this time of year. Anglers are afforded just as good an opportunity at catching that 20” smallmouth throwing into moving waters at either side of ripples and rapids, and concentrating on oxygenated, moving water, and less focus on beating the banks. Craw patterns, stick baits, and small crankbaits, along with jigs and ned rigs do the work this time of year.
Tip(s) of the month:
Focus on fishing mid-river and less on beating the banks! The big fish are on the move and expending lots of energy!
