B.A.S.S. Elite Pro Chooses Gill for Varying Tournament Weather Conditions

Buford, GA (February 12, 2020) – Among Gill’s diverse roster of pro bass anglers representing the B.A.S.S. Elite Series, FLW and Major League Fishing (MLF), is Scott Canterbury. In 2019, Scott Canterbury fished his first year on the Bassmaster Elite Series…and had an incredible season, capped off being named the Toyota Bassmaster Angler of the Year (AOY). Prior to that, Canterbury fished the FLW for 11 years, was named 2008 Rookie of the Year, and fished in the FLW Cup 10 times. Now preparing for the upcoming Bassmaster Classic in his home state of Alabama, Canterbury is excited to be working with Gill.

“Not only has Scott proved himself repeatedly in the bass tournament world,” says Tim Golden, U.S. National Sales Manager, Gill Fishing. “He’s been a real benefit to our company in terms of product design feedback, social media exposure, and more.”

Although in his inaugural year with Gill, he’s already fished many events in the gear, ultimately putting the jackets, bibs and accessories through the challenging real-world tests that pro bass anglers face every day.

“It’s been great working with Gill. Between the people that work for them—who have been fantastic—and the clothing, it’s been just an ideal relationship. All the fishing gear I have is just superior,” says Canterbury.

“When it comes to Gill’s fishing gear, I’ve got a little bit of everything. It just depends on when and where I’m competing. That determines what I’ll wear. For most tournaments, I wear the Tournament Jacket and Tournament Bib. I’ve also wear a Pro Tournament 3L Jacket and Active Bib Trousers when it’s not as cold but still wet. They perform great, too. It just depends on the weather. Gill has gear for all situations, and that’s what I really like.”

In particular, Canterbury points out that he’s impressed with the Vortex hood. “For winter tournaments and the upcoming Bassmaster Classic, I’ll be wearing the Pro Tournament 3L Jacket and the Tournament Bib. I know what kind of conditions we can have that time of year. It could be 75 degrees every day, or it could also be snowing. And the Vortex hood is a really great design. When you’re running down the lake it keeps the airstream flowing through to keep your hood right where it needs to be and keeps my Gill waterproof hat in place. I love that hat. It stays on your head when you’re running, keeps you dry, and it’s super warm.”

Canterbury is a big proponent of Gill’s new Tournament Jacket.

Canterbury adds that Gill truly offers products for every fishing situation. “Gill has gear for every possible condition we come across fishing tournaments. Whether it’s 25 or 30 degrees and raining, or 70 degrees and misting, Gill has the gear. Plus, they have a host of layering options besides insulated wear, which really plays out well in preparing for changing conditions.

“Gill also offers all the accessories – from gloves to hats to footwear. Simply, they manufacture everything an angler requires to stay comfortable on the water.”

New to Gill’s collection for 2020, the Pro Tournament 3L features a highly technical design that offers protection against the wind and water. It features 3-layer fabric construction and fully taped seams, which combined with the enduring water repellent fishing gives great protection from the elements. The Vortex hood technology has been designed to keep the hood in place when traveling at high speeds, making it perfect for getting around on a bass boat. The modern fishing jacket comes in either graphite or taupe with subtle branding across the chest. This men’s fishing jacket is also highly breathable and adorned with zippered chest pockets and spacious side pockets for added storage.

Gill is proud to announce that the entire 2020 fishing collection is currently available at www.gillfishing.com and will be on display at the Bassmaster Classic.

Looking forward to the Bassmaster Classic, marking its 50th anniversary, Canterbury believes it’s going to be one of the best events ever—for both anglers and spectators.

“Fishing the 50th anniversary Bassmaster Classic is going to be something I will always remember. I’ll be in front of my home state crowd, which will be awesome—and the conditions should be ideal for some big bags. But nobody’s quite sure what the fishing will be yet. Springtime bites can really vary. Ultimately, it’s going to come down to the weather. Fishing will be good, but the weather is going to dictate how we catch them. The lake is going to be changing at a fast pace, so while we practice a week ahead of the tournament everything can change completely. It will be interesting. This much is certain, I’m really looking forward to fishing it and going out there fully dressed and protected in the best fishing gear on the planet.”
