BREWERTON, N.Y. (July 20, 2015) – Ian Renfrew of Phoenix, New York, weighed a five-bass limit totaling 16 pounds, 11 ounces Saturday to win the third Walmart Bass Fishing League Northeast Division tournament on Oneida Lake presented by Navionics. For his victory, Renfrew earned $4,695.
“I consider myself a fairly conservative fisherman,” said Renfrew, who earned his first win after three previous top-10 finishes in BFL competition. “But on Saturday I went for the win and it ended up going well.”
Renfrew said he caught most of his fish by targeting isolated grass patches in 8- to 10-feet of water.
“I probably hit around nine different patches of grass,” said Renfrew. “With those patches, it’s all about timing – like tidal water fishing. I would return to a certain patch if I didn’t find bass early and they would be there. A lot of anglers wouldn’t return at all.”
Renfrew said he used a 4-inch green-pumpkin-colored Jackall Cover Craw to catch the majority of his fish, while his kicker came on a black frog.
“I had a limit by 7:30 a.m. – including two smallmouths,” said Renfrew. “They were roaming around in grass that had coontail in it and broken-up rock on the bottom.”
Renfrew said it was his G. Loomis GLX rod that helped him edge the competition.
“I was able to really lean on it and pull the fish out of those patches,” said Renfrew. “They didn’t stand a chance.”
The top 10 boaters finished the tournament in:
1st:          Ian Renfrew, Phoenix, N.Y., five bass, 16-11, $4,695

WHITTINGTON, Ill. (July 20, 2015) – Ray Arning Jr. of Walnut Hill, Illinois, weighed a five-bass limit totaling 13 pounds, 5 ounces Saturday to win the third Walmart Bass Fishing League Illini Division tournament on Rend Lake presented by Navionics. For his victory, Arning earned $5,804.
“It was one of those hot, tough days of fishing,” said Arning, who earned the fifth BFL win of his career. “I don’t think the wind blew once in eight hours.”
Arning said he targeted one location for the entire day – a 60-yard area on the north end of the lake.
“The bass were feeding on big shad in the open water,” said Arning. “Occasionally they would come to a creek ditch where I would catch them. I would leave them alone for a half hour, return and try again.
“I used a Junebug-colored Zoom Fork Tail worm,” continued Arning. “It’s not a bait you hear about often but I’ve consistently won money with them.”
Arning said he caught four keepers before 11 a.m., with his final two fish biting after noon.
“It was one of those days that tested patience,” said Arning. “It was nice to see it pay off.”
The top 10 boaters finished the tournament in:

Top Fishing Teams Compete In B.A.S.S. High School, Junior Championships

[print_link]

PARIS, Tenn. — High school bass fishing’s elite teams are preparing to compete in the ultimate match of skills at the Costa Bassmaster High School National Championship presented by TNT Fireworks. The championship is July 22-25 on Kentucky Lake in Paris, Tenn.

“We are thrilled to host this tournament on beautiful Kentucky Lake,” said David Hamilton, CEO of the Henry County Tourism Authority. “Kentucky Lake is one of the top lakes for bass fishing, and we are excited for these high school anglers to return to compete for the national championship title.”

Teams will compete for $75,000 in scholarships and prizes. Schools participating in the B.A.S.S. Nation High School program are eligible to qualify two-angler teams for the championship. Competing for the high school and junior titles are more than 160 qualified teams representing 37 states.

“Just qualifying for the national championship is an achievement,” said Hank Weldon, manager of the B.A.S.S. high school and college programs. “Getting this far requires a lot of skill and dedication to advance through the local tournaments and beyond.”

The high school field is reduced to the Top 10 teams after the second day of competition. Teams ranked 11th through 50th places will fish on the third day at Carroll County 1,000 Acre Recreational Lake. The best two teams will then join the Top 10 for the final day of competition on Kentucky Lake.

A coach whose role is mentoring the anglers will accompany each pair of anglers in the boat. Each team is required to take a 15-minute half-time break after four hours of fishing. One-minute timeouts are optional. The breaks allow the coaches and anglers to share strategies and stay hydrated and energized during the day.

Recent unseasonably heavy rainfall has the lakes filled above normal summer pool levels. Those conditions have the bass scattered along inundated shoreline cover and are challenging to catch. All that is expected to change with lake levels returning to normal.

“The anglers should experience the best ledge fishing of the summer by tournament time,” said Garry Mason, coach of the Bethel University bass fishing team. “The bass will be easier to catch, and it will likely set up the chance for some big catches.”

He added, “Carroll County 1,000 Acre Recreational Lake produces great numbers of bass, and I predict the junior and second-chance anglers will find fishing success there, too.”

Bethel University’s campus in McKenzie is the site of the tournament rules meeting and dinner on the eve of competition. Special guests include Casey Ashley, winner of the 2015 GEICO Bassmaster Classic presented by GoPro, Dave Ittner of Yamaha, Mason and Fishing University TV host Charlie Ingram. Attendance is limited to contestants and coaches.

On July 22-23, the weigh-ins are at Paris Landing State Park. On July 24, the second-chance and junior weigh-ins are in downtown Huntingdon, Tenn. The final weigh-in on July 25 is on the McKenzie campus of Bethel University.

High school championship week includes also the B.A.S.S. Youth Nation Junior Championship, July 24-25. Teams compete at Carroll County 1,000 Acre Recreational Lake. The B.A.S.S. Youth Nation is designed to seed the high school program.

“We are excited that the junior championship qualifier will be held at Carroll County 1,000 Acre Recreational Lake,” said Brad Hurley, president of the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce. “We are looking forward to a big week with the final junior and high school championship weigh-ins set for the campus of Bethel University.”

At Bassmaster.com you can follow the tournament with live weigh-ins, a real-time scoreboard, photo galleries, features and BassCam videos. High school boat captains are expected to post to the live blog with photos during the competition day.

Official hosts are Paris-Henry County, Carroll County, Northwest Tennessee Tourism and Bethel University.

SUNNY LAKE (BEIJING) SPORT DEVELOPMENT SIGNS EXCLUSIVE FLW LICENSING AGREEMENT TO RUN FLW FISHING TOURNAMENTS IN CHINA

SUNNY LAKE (BEIJING) SPORT DEVELOPMENT SIGNS EXCLUSIVE FLW LICENSING AGREEMENT TO RUN FLW FISHING TOURNAMENTS IN CHINA
ORLANDO, Fla. (July 16, 2015) – FLW, the world’s largest tournament-fishing organization, announced an exclusive licensing agreement with Sunny Lake (Beijing) Sport Development, LLC, from China to begin sanctioning FLW bass-fishing tournaments in the Eastern-Asian nation at a contract signing today at the International Convention of Allied Sportfishing Trades (ICAST). The agreement was signed by FLW President of Operations Kathy Fennel and Gang Li, Vice President of the Florida Culture Exchange Association (FCEA) representing Sunny Lake Sport Development.

China is the third country to sign on for international sanctioning, joining Canada and South Korea as FLW partners under the new program.
“We are very excited to bring FLW tournaments to China,” said Gang Li, Vice President of Florida Culture Exchange Association. “The agreement between FLW and the FCEA will be a fantastic partnership that will be a very effective combination of sports media and marketing platforms.”
China will run a series of FLW tournaments that advance anglers, who are citizens of the host country, to a new international division at the Rayovac FLW Series Championship beginning in 2016. Two anglers will compete as pros with FLW providing Ranger boats and two will compete as co-anglers. The top pro award at the Rayovac FLW Series Championship is $95,000, including a Ranger Z518C if the pro is Ranger Cup qualified, and the top co-angler award is a Ranger Z117.
China is the third country to sign on for international sanctioning, joining Canada and South Korea as FLW partners under the new program. The highest finishing pro from the newly introduced International Division at the Rayovac FLW Series Championship will advance to the following year’s Forrest Wood Cup for the chance to compete on the sport’s biggest stage for $500,000 – the biggest payday in bass fishing. FLW will also provide a Ranger boat for use in the Forrest Wood Cup.
“We are thrilled that China has signed on as the third country to begin hosting FLW events,” said Kathy Fennel, FLW President of Operations. “Competitive bass fishing is poised for explosive growth, and FLW is leading the way. We have long touted our anglers as the best in the world, and now with the integration of our new international division in the Rayovac FLW Series we will truly see global competition.”
Additional FLW qualifying tournaments in other countries are forthcoming. Watch FLWFishing.com for details.
Named after the founder of Ranger Boats, Forrest L. Wood, FLW introduced its Fishing League Worldwide tagline last year to better reflect its status as the world’s largest tournament fishing organization. Earlier this year FLW expanded its presence on the world stage with the introduction of a sanctioning program allowing international partners to license the iconic brand and run FLW tournaments abroad.

LEGENDARY PRO ANGLER BILL DANCE, CODY DETWEILER AND DAVE EAST WIN INAUGURAL ICAST CUP PRESENTED BY FLW ON LAKE TOHO

ORLANDO, Fla. (July 14, 2015) – The Mystik Lubricants-sponsored trio of Bill Dance, Cody Detweiler and Dave East brought a five-bass limit to the scale Tuesday morning totaling 17 pounds, 1 ounce to win the inaugural ICAST Cup presented by FLW bass-fishing tournament on Lake Toho. For their victory, the trio each earned trophies to take home and the title of ICAST Cup Champions.

The event marked the start of ICAST, the largest sportfishing trade show in the world. The tournament launched out of Big Toho Marina in Kissimmee, Florida, and featured 61 teams competing for bragging rights and to raise money for the KeepAmericaFishing™ foundation. Each company that sponsored a boat donated a minimum $100 entry fee to the foundation in order to compete. After the final fish had been weighed Tuesday, more than $6,300 was raised for the KeepAmericaFishing™ foundation.

“I’ve said many times that you’re only as good as the people you fish with and Cody (Detweiler) certainly knew what he was doing,” said Dance, the professional bass-fishing legend who has hosted Bill Dance Outdoors for more than 40 years. “I was very, very fortunate today and I fished with two great guys.”

The team estimated that they caught around 10 bass in the three-hour event, with the majority of their fish caught on a white and red Bass Pro Shops XPS Buzzbait and a few on a watermelon red-colored frog. They targeted two grassy areas within sight of the marina for the duration of the event.

“We were fortunate to get out there and catch our fish in the first two hours of the day,” Dance said. “This is the first year that this tournament has been held and I had a super time. I really enjoyed the early start and the quick format and it is all for a great cause. If the Good Lord is willing, I’ll be back next year.”

The top 10 teams finished the tournament in:

NEW PLANO STAMP MARKS GENERATIONS OF INNOVATION

CELEBRATING THE PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE OF TACKLE STORAGE

NEW PLANO STAMP MARKS GENERATIONS OF INNOVATION

Plano, IL (July 15, 2015) – America’s fascination with plastic began when modern thermoplastic compounds were first developed for commercial use during the years leading up to WWII. Plano Molding Company was one of the first to begin injection molding these new “miracle materials” in 1938. Their complex mold designs and innovative spirit quickly showed the world what could be done with the new technology.

14 years later, Plano founder Pete Henning manufactured the very first molded plastic tackle box in 1952, revolutionizing – if not creating – the tackle storage industry.

But being first was just the beginning.

For the past six decades, Plano has focused on innovating and elevating tackle storage and management so anglers can find more success on the water and make the most out of every precious outing.

Today, Plano manufactures and sells over 200 distinct tackle storage products, each painstakingly designed to help anglers protect their passion with innovative, user-friendly function and pride-inspiring style.  If you own a tackle box – and we know you do – there’s an 80% chance it carries Plano’s legendary triple P logo.

Beginning with the remarkable release of 30 all-new soft tackle bags in 2016, Plano will begin stamping a new trademark on its covetous collections – a trademark that showcases the company’s pioneering past, dynamic present, and self-destined future of industry-leading innovation.

“This mark allows us to celebrate our pride in being the original manufacturers of molded tackle storage equipment while also highlighting the date in which we began the relentless pursuit of offering the best performing and most innovative tackle storage products on the market,” says Plano Synergy Director of Marketing, Ben Rand.

Plano A-Series Collection

Debuting at ICAST this week, Plano’s new trademark looks at home on the adventurous and innovative A-Series, which consists of five premium and distinctive soft tackle bag designs, each combining high-quality materials with a clean and rugged all-new aesthetic.

The one-of-a-kind A-Series 3600 and 3700 size A-Series QuickTop Tackle Bags feature a unique hybrid soft/hard design, incorporating a range of pragmatic features that will help any angler maximize speed, efficiency and enjoyment on the water. The A-Series QuickTop looks and functions like no other tackle bag ever built, with a durable and sleek, molded ABS lid atop a richly-featured soft tackle bag.

In addition to the two QuickTop Tackle Bags, Plano’s new A-Series includes a Tackle Bag, Tackle Backpack, and a Tackle Duffel, providing the discriminating angler with a premium and comprehensive system for tackle storage and transportation.

There are a handful of truly iconic and enduring fishing brands, but none have crossed and connected more generations of anglers the way Plano has while still remaining on the cutting edge of innovation. Plano is a true angler-centric company, championed from top to bottom by employees who share the passions of their customers.  “There’s no disconnect at Plano,” continues Rand.

“Celebrating who we are while striving to lead the way from an innovation standpoint is extremely important, and this new trademark is a visual reminder of these accomplishments and ideals.”
