Clark Wendlandt chases a bass under a bridge. No obstacle is too big to overcome on the final day of competition at the Walmart FLW Tour on Lewis Smith Lake.

2:45 p.m.: Pros Pulling Out All the Stops in the Waning Minutes

Leader Zack Birge is in touble.

With only four fish, Birge badly needs another keeper (and probably an upgrade) if he wants to maintain his lead. By our estimates, Dave Lefebre is about a half-pound behind Birge right now thanks to a freak double fish catch that included a 5-pound pig. Lefebre’s on fire and has been most of the day.

Scott Martin is also making a strong push from the middle of the pack and is almost even with Birge.

We don’t have a dead-on estimate for Clark Wendlandt, but we know he had about 9 pounds before culling out a squeaker. If he added a pound, he’s about even with Birge now too.

Tracy Adams is only a pound or two back of the leader and has been around a lot of fish today. A couple more culls and he could easily close the gap.

Even Andy Morgan, who started the day in ninth place, is within about 3 pounds of Birge. He’s one you definitely don’t want lurking behind you when you’re leading the final day of a Tour event.

Right now, everything’s quiet on the water. Very few reports are coming in from our On The Water reporters. It feels like the next big bass to be caught could be an absolute game changer.

1:55 p.m.: Afternoon Lull Setting In

Despite previous predictions that the spawning bite was about to get red-hot, fishing has actually slowed for most pros. Only a few updates have trickled in over the last half-hour: Wendlandt culled out a squeaker to upgrade to about 10 pounds, Birge still has only four fish, Morgan has 12 or 13 pounds, Adams is flirting with double-digits, Benton has 8 or 9 pounds, Martin is one fish away from a good mid-teens bag, Reyes has about 10 pounds and Lefebre has topped 14. Whew … that’s the quick rundown.

Do the math, and it’s pretty clear that this tournament is about to get all knotted up. Birge needs to not only fill his limit but upgrade a fish or two. He hasn’t really changed up much but is still waiting for a new wave of spawners to stage in his ditch or slide into the bushes to spawn.

The rest of the field is hunting and pecking for shallow fish. Schoolers and fish chasing bluebacks are still in play, but the timing has to be just right to make that pattern work.

A light veil of cloud cover still hangs over Jasper. If the sun would just break through, it could open a window for someone to make a big upgrade in the final hour. Let’s see how this shakes out.

Standy by for one final update at 2:45 p.m. Pros check in at 3:15.

Temperatures hover around the freezing mark on day four of the Walmart FLW Tour on Lewis Smith Lake. Zack Birge manages to make his way through the light early morning fog.

Bonus Video from Day 3: See How Dave Lefebre Made the Top-10 Cut

1:00 p.m.: John Cox Involved in Accident, Elects to End His Day

Florida pro John Cox, who started the day in eighth place, was involved in a single-boat accident on Lewis Smith Lake shortly after noon. Cox declined medical treatment following the accident but has voluntarily decided to end his day early. Those are all the details we have at this time. Cox is on his way back to the ramp. We’ll update fans when more information is available.

12:34 p.m.: Moving Time Begins on Lewis Smith

Zack Birge finally managed to drum up a couple of key bites in his primary area about an hour ago, but he’s not exactly slamming the door on his competition. Unfortunately for Birge, a blanket of cloud cover has settled over Lewis Smith, and almost instantly the reports from pros fishing shallow stopped coming in.

The one exception is a 4-pound spotted bass that Scott Martin caught off a bed. He’s working on a pretty solid limit, but he needs a 20-pound bag to even have a shot at Birge’s lead. He just made a move with hopes of culling out a 1 1/2-pound fish. If he can replace it with a 4- or 5-pounder, he’ll have at least a chance.

The bite has gone in fits and spurts today. No one is consistently catching them, but when the fish turn on, everyone seems to get in on the action. Right now we’re in a mini-lull period.

Drew Benton just ran way upriver to one of his shallow spots. It’s likely he’ll burn the rest of his day there. Andy Morgan is in the backs of pockets now too, trying to upgrade his small limit.

Jason Reyes is off and running to spot number two on the final day of competition at the Walmart FLW Tour on Lewis Smith Lake.

11:14 a.m.: Bedding Fish are Starting to Lock On

Reports from the water say that the largemouths are moving up in droves. Wendlandt and Adams are around plenty of fish. The bass are still a little “off” in this cold weather, but the bite is about to bust open at any time. Wendlandt just returned to one on a bed that he couldn’t catch this morning, and he got her to bite five times before finally getting a good hookset. Their aggressiveness is picking up.

Drew Benton, Andy Morgan and now Scott Martin have switched from spotted bass to chasing bedding largemouths. They’re hedging their bets that the action is going to pick up for largemouths that’ll outweigh the smaller spots being caught this morning.

Jason Reyes has had a little success on bedding fish too. This morning he was mixing in a swimbait and rotating through a variety of presentations, both shallow and deep, but now he’s spending a lot more time on the spawners.

The one pro sticking to a little bit different game plan is Dave Lefebre. He’s still fishing deep docks and is definitely around some bigger fish. He just needs to figure out how to get them commit. He had a nice one follow his bait out and lost another.

Tracey Adams gets on the board early on day four of the Walmart FLW Tour on Lewis Smith Lake.

10:35 a.m.: Spotted Bass Action is Cooling Off, Boat Pressure for the Leader

Well, the morning spotted bass bite has started to slow down. Scott Martin and Dave Lefebre were catching spots pretty well early on, but now they’ve both hit a lull. Meanwhile, Andy Morgan got a limit of spots and decided to bug out in search of largemouths. His search has been pretty slow.

Tracy Adams is off to a good start as well and is chasing bedding bass. He’s still hunting for a big bite.

Both Drew Benton and Zack Birge are trying to dial in the bite right now. Benton has a small limit. He had a 4-pounder follow his bait to the boat but not eat. That fish really would have helped. Unfortunately for Birge, who has just one keeper, a couple of anglers are parked on his best spot. Rumor is that they were watching him fish in there yesterday. Birge seems calm and collected beyond what you’d expect from a rookie, but this is a real test for the young Oklahoma pro.

Lefebre went on a tear early on day four. He had almost 13 pounds in the boat by 9:30.

9:40 a.m.: Lefebre Culls Again, Adams Locks up a Limit and Scott Martin Lands the Biggest Fish of the Day

It didn’t take long for Lefebre to improve his limit once more. He now has 12 1/2 to 13 pounds. The spotted bass action this morning is helping his cause.

Scott Martin, who stocked his bag with big spots early yesterday, caught what is probably the biggest bass of day four so far. It’s about a 4-pound spot. He caught a 5-pounder yesterday. Martin is looking at the fish he’s catching via his depth finder and dropping down to them in 40 feet of water.

Tracy Adams joins the short list of pros with early limits. His fifth came off a bed and weighs about 2 pounds. Wendlandt caught a decent keeper off a bed too. Maybe that means the spawning largemouth action is picking up.

9:20 a.m.: Lefebre Firing on all Cylinders

Dave Lefebre told the crowd at takeoff that despite his 8 1/2-pound deficit behind leader Zack Birge, he’s still got a shot at winning this tournament. Thus far this morning, Lefebre has proved that he’s still in the hunt. He has culled several times already and is gaining about a pound with every new fish. Right now, he has about 12 pounds. The only other pro with a limit is Andy Morgan, but he’s barely flirting with double-digits.

No one has caught a real kicker yet. The cold this morning seems to really have slowed the largemouth bite, so it’s most likely that the action will really pick up this afternoon. The sky is clear, and the sun is shining. Once it gets up high, expect the water to heat up and the action to improve with it.

Evinrude pro Scott Martin is ready for action. He had a big day three and likes his chance to catch Birge.

7:30 a.m.: Brrrrr, Another Chilly Morning for the Final Round

Day four broke even colder than day three, with the air temperature hovering around 30 degrees and trucks and boats cloaked with frost. It’ll be a challenging morning for the camera crews covering the top 10 for FLW’s television production, but if today turns out anything like yesterday, the pros themselves shouldn’t have any problem catching fish.

The morning largemouth bite has been slow for the last three days, and most of the early action is for spotted bass. The action flip-flops later in the day once the sun starts to shine and warm up the shallows. Drew Benton, who’s chasing spawning largemouths, says his only concern is that it’ll take too long for the largemouths to start cooperating. He thinks his bite might not pick up until 2 p.m. Check-in is 3:15, so that doesn’t leave much time to get it done.

It sounds like Benton is changing up his game plan a little bit this morning in order to get a few spots in his livewell while he waits for the temperature to rise. Unfortunately, the first report we had from the water was that Benton happened to pull into the same spot as where Scott Martin caught his early fish yesterday. There was a bit of tension between the two as they sorted out the situation.

Stay tuned to FLWFishing.com for updates all throughout the final day of competition on Lewis Smith Lake.

PIEDMONT BASS CLASSICS $10,000 SPRING TEAM BASS TRAIL QUALIFIER #3 RESULTS
Saturday March 28th, 2015 ~ Shearon Harris ~ Cross Point Landing Wildlife Ramp

Well, things are starting to get back to normal weatherwise bringing a large crowd to fish the PBC Qualifer #3 at Shearon Harris. We did get a break in the weather today, but it was still cold in the morning at 35 degrees but pretty nice towards days end with about 55. Wind, however, was the factor today with 5 to 15 mph then some gusts up to about 20. Water temps ranged from 55 to 59 depending on the area fished. Most of the 65 teams said the
bite was pretty shallow and many of the bass were seen in 1 to 2 foot of water in the shade of the grass beds which means the spawn is coming soon!

Kevin Beverly & Tyler Faggart took their first win this year with 5 bass weighing a total of 27.46 lbs. along with 1st place TWT for a total of $2,333 in winnings. Greyson Barefoot & Aaron Johnson took 2nd place with 4 fish
weighing 22.07 lbs. They also won the Big Fish Award (7.98 lbs.) and 2nd Place TWT for a grand total of $2,141. 2nd Place Big Fish (7.98 lbs.) was caught by the team of Jerry Marshburn & Chuck Byrd (7.93 lbs.) netting them
$384 in cash. 100 fish were weighed in for a total of 355 pounds for an average of 3.56 lbs. each. There were a lot more bass caught that could not be weighed in because of the slot limit rule on Harris. Most of the fish were caught on plastics and jerk baits with a few on topwater.
I want to thank all the anglers that participated and all our sponsors that support this trail. Coming up April 4th will be the Cashion Fishing Rods Spring Team Bass Mini Trail Q#3 at Shearon Harris. On the following weekend we have a double header, the Piedmont Bass Classics $10,000 Spring Team Bass Trail Qualifier #4 on April 11th At Falls Lake and the Qualifier #2 on April 12th at Jordan Lake which is the makeup
date for the that event that was supposed to be held on March 14th.

University Of Arkansas Wins Inaugural FLW College Fishing Open on Kentucky Lake

GILBERTSVILLE, Ky. – A huge field of 194 college teams launched Friday morning on Kentucky Lake, shattering the record to become the largest collegiate fishing tournament ever held. Once the final ounce had been tallied Saturday evening, the University of Arkansas team of Zachary Pickle of South Lake, Texas, and, Drew Porto of Colleyville, Texas, were named champions of the inaugural FLW College Fishing Open on Kentucky Lake. The Razorback duo brought five bass weighing 21 pounds, 15 ounces to the scale for a two-day total of 10 bass totaling 43 pounds, 12 ounces. The victory earned the club a new Ranger Z117 boat with a Mercury or Evinrude outboard engine and a berth into the 2016 FLW College Fishing National Championship.

“I never thought we were going to win it,” said Porto, a senior majoring in Marketing. “I knew we had enough weight to push us into the top 10, but I never thought we would come out with a victory.”

“We were pretty nervous up on stage,” said Pickle, a freshman majoring in Agricultural Business. “I had lost a couple of three- or four-pounders during the tournament so I was hoping that it wouldn’t come back to haunt us.”

The freshman’s mishap didn’t hurt the duo as the two went on to win the tournament by fishing the Big Sandy River area, where the fish were active along 30 yards of chunk rock and a creek channel bend.

“We were dialed in on the exact 30-yard stretch both days. We just went back and forth along the rocks at a consistent pace,” said Porto. “During practice I found the water was warmer there – about 53 degrees. After 20 casts, I had put three fish weighing around five pounds each in the livewell. I knew we would have to return there during the tournament.”

The anglers said that they caught 12 keepers in the tournament, all coming on a black chartreuse-colored Xcalibur XCS Square Lip Silent Crankbait.

“The bait worked perfectly in that warmer water,” said Pickle. “The bass were right where we wanted them. This whole week was really exciting.”

The top 10 teams that advanced to the 2016 FLW College Fishing National Championship are:

1st:          University of Arkansas — Zachary Pickle, South Lake, Texas, and Drew Porto, Colleyville, Texas, (10 bass, 43-12)

Lefebre Wins Walmart FLW Tour On Lewis Smith Lake Presented By Evinrude

JASPER, Ala. – FLW Tour pro Dave Lefebre of Erie, Pennsylvania, brought a five-bass limit to the scale Sunday weighing 19 pounds, 5 ounces to win the Walmart FLW Tour at Lewis Smith Lake presented by Evinrude. Lefebre’s four-day total of 20 bass weighing 65-5 gave him a 1-pound, 14-ounce margin of victory over second place pro Clark Wendlandt of Leander, Texas, in the nationally-televised event that featured 154 of the best professional bass-fishing anglers in the world competing for the top cash award of up to $125,000.
“I couldn’t sleep last night because I was so excited to go fishing today,” said Lefebre, an 11-time Forrest Wood Cup qualifier. “I wasn’t even thinking about winning the tournament, I just wanted to move up a few spots and cash a nice check. Today was one of the biggest surprises of my entire career.”
Lefebre said that he caught most of his fish this week fishing in the backs of creeks. His plan was to start each day by targeting spotted bass, then move to the largemouth once the sun came up and the temperatures warmed.
“In the mornings I was throwing a white- or albino-colored ½-ounce Fish Head Spin with a Yamamoto D-Shad superglued to it,” Lefebre said. “My goal was to catch one or two keeper spotted bass early and then go looking for the keeper largemouth. The largemouth were in the back of the pockets keying on the blueback herring spawn. The key was to find the pockets that the blueback were in.
“I caught most of my largemouth on a Rapala BX Waking Minnow,” Lefebre continued. “I caught 24 pounds in practice flipping, and I really thought that I would be fishing this tournament with a big jig. But on the last day of practice I started messing around with a few other baits and that’s when I started to get confidence in that BX Minnow. I could make super long casts, and a lot of the fish would track it for 20 feet before they would bite it. The BX is what got me here.”
Lefebre’s strategy paid off, as he managed to weigh in both species each day of the tournament. Of the 20 bass that Lefebre brought to the scale, eight were spotted bass and 12 were largemouth.
“I had an awesome day – two or three of the best things that have ever happened in my career happened to me today – but I really didn’t think that my 19 pounds would win it. Lewis Smith Lake is one of my favorite lakes in the world to fish, and to come down here and get the win is just the best.”
The top 10 pros finished the tournament:
               1st:          Dave Lefebre, Erie, Pa., 20 bass, 65-5, $125,000
               2nd:         Clark Wendlandt, Leander, Texas, 20 bass, 63-7, $30,000
               3th:          Jason Reyes, Huffman, Texas, 20 bass, 62-4, $25,000
               4th:          Tracy Adams, Wilkesboro, N.C., 20 bass, 61-3, $20,000
               5th:          Scott Martin, Clewiston, Fla., 20 bass, 60-12, $19,000
6th:          Livingston Lures pro Andy Morgan, Dayton, Tenn., 20 bass, 59-10, $18,000
               7th:          Zack Birge, Blanchard, Okla., 19 bass, 59-10, $17,000
8th:          Drew Benton, Panama City, Fla., 20 bass, 57-14, $16,000
               9th:          Clayton Batts, Macon, Ga., 17 bass, 50-15, $15,000
               10th:        John Cox, Debary, Fla., 15 bass, 45-15, $14,000
A complete list of results can be found at FLWFishing.com.

Pflueger Patriarch XT Casting Reel Review by Walker Smith

Pflueger Patriarch XT Casting Reel Review

Walker Smith

This low-profile casting reel is strong, lightweight and incredibly easy to cast

I always think it’s interesting to experiment with different fishing reels and manufacturers. Some companies try to make their reels the lightest on the market while others have a reputation for designing pure workhorse reels made to withstand anything imaginable.

To be totally honest here, I wasn’t too familiar with Pflueger’s modus operandi until recently. I had always heard great things about them, but aside from winning a handful of old Pfluegers in tournaments years ago, I’ve never had a chance to fish with them extensively.

After using the Pflueger Patriarch XT Casting Reel for well over a month, I am slowly becoming addicted to it. It’s a unique reel in several ways and I can comfortably say that it performs at a much higher level than many of the more expensive reels I’ve tried over the years.

Here’s what I think you need to know about it.

  • It’s light but not too small
  • Easy to cast
  • Great line capacity
  • Strong drag

Top 5 Patterns from Lewis Smith Day 3

After three days, it looks as if tournament leader Zack Birge has the quality largemouth bite in the bushes wired. But behind him on the leaderboard are nine pros doing everything from sight-fishing to catching schooling bass and everything in between.

Even with all the patterns in play, few have fizzled. The sight-fishers have reported finding new bedders, the schoolers are still schooling and a couple of guys have even started tapping floating docks.

Click here to read about Birge’s leading pattern. Here are the details of the rest of the top five.

2nd Place – Clark Wendlandt – 50 pounds, 13 ounces

Clark Wendlandt has dialed up a deadly combination of reeling a swim jig around docks in the mornings while scouting for beds with the trolling motor on high. The fish he catches reeling the jig are bonus bites to get the livewell pumps running. Later in the day he comes back to the bedders he spied earlier, and they make for some solid afternoon upgrades.

“I actually had a nice flurry this morning on the swim jig,” he says. “I caught about 12 or 13 pounds on it early while I was looking. That helped set the tone for the day, and then I picked some off beds to cull up several pounds.

“The whole sight-fishing deal here is a catch-22,” he adds. “The largemouths are a lot easier to see, but so much harder to catch. The spots are easier to catch, but so much harder to see. The good news is that I found several of both species on beds today that I left for tomorrow.”

3rd Place – Tracy Adams – 49 pounds, 10 ounces

Similar to Wendlandt, Tracy Adams has tapped a nice combination of skipping docks in the mornings and then looking for new bedders in the afternoons. His catch of 17 pounds, 14 ounces was the heaviest of day three and featured both largemouths and spots.

“The two patterns work nicely together,” Adams says. “In the mornings, I’ll skip the bigger docks out on the points of the spawning pockets. I think those fish are sort of ‘floating around’ waiting to come in to spawn. As it gets later in the day and the sun shines a bit more, I’ll start cruising deeper back into the pockets looking for spawners.”

4th Place – Drew Benton – 48 pounds, 9 ounces

Drew Benton, who led the first day and was in second coming into the weekend, slid back to fourth place today with a catch of 12 pounds, 12 ounces.

Benton found his spawning largemouths to be most uncooperative today, and he had to resort to “just fishing” for his catch.

“I’ve still got a few good largemouths on beds, but they are just so dang spooky,” Benton says. “I really think if it will just warm up a touch tomorrow they will want to play. But today, they would not stay put. So I scratched the sight-fishing plan and just went cranking with a Bagley Sunny B and pitched a jig to laydowns.”

5th Place – Jason Reyes – 47 pounds, 13 ounces

Jason Reyes moved up to his highest spot of the week, fifth place, with a 16-pound, 7-ounce catch today.

Reyes has locked into a deadly schooling pattern centered on blueback herring in the backs of drains.

“I’ve got two drains loaded with herring, and when the bass go off on those herring, I can catch 15 pounds in 10 minutes,” Reyes says. “When it happens, it’s just crazy; they come up blowing those herring out of the water. And when I catch one, it’s coughing up herring.”

The key lure for Reyes has been a swimbait.

“I like the swimbait because I don’t have to switch baits,” he says. “I can swim it down deep when they’re down and catch a few that way and then reel it fast on top to catch them when they come up.”

Reyes also notes that wind is a big trigger.

“When the wind blows into the backs of the drains, it ignites the school,” he explains. “The wind blows the herring into the very back ends, and that’s when the bass blast them.”

BIRGE LEADS PROS INTO FINAL DAY OF WALMART FLW TOUR ON LEWIS SMITH LAKE PRESENTED BY EVINRUDE

BIRGE LEADS PROS INTO FINAL DAY OF WALMART FLW TOUR ON LEWIS SMITH LAKE PRESENTED BY EVINRUDE
Oklahoma Rookie Takes Near Four-Pound Lead In To Final Day
[print_link]
JASPER, Ala. (March 28, 2015) – FLW Tour rookie Zack Birge of Blanchard, Oklahoma, caught a five-bass limit weighing 17 pounds, 11 ounces Saturday to extend his lead in a stacked top-20 field that included five former Angler of the Year winners and four Forrest Wood Cup champions. Birge now holds a 3-pound, 11-ounce edge over his closest competitor, legendary pro Clark Wendlandt of Leander, Texas, at the Walmart FLW Tour at Lewis Smith Lake presented by Evinrude. The field is now cut to the final 10 anglers as they enter the fourth and final day of competition in the event that featured 154 of the best bass-fishing anglers in the world competing for a top cash award of up to $125,000.
“I will probably not be getting much sleep tonight,” said Birge, who finished in 13th place at the FLW Tour season opener at Lake Toho just three weeks ago. “I had no expectations coming in to this event, and I had no idea that this tournament would turn out the way it has so far. It’s been an awesome week. I’m fishing just like I do back home – shallow-water bushes – and just having fun.”
Birge stuck to his largemouth pattern that he has had dialed in all week, even when many of his competitors chose to target the abundant Lewis Smith Lake spotted bass in the morning. He caught two largemouth very early in the day, then another eight to 10 keepers in the afternoon as the temperatures warmed.
“The spotted bass that I have been catching have been small, so I figured that I would try to catch a couple of largemouth early and get a few bonus fish,” Birge said. “I was extremely fortunate to catch two of them early and it calmed me down. I knew the bite would turn on around noon, and it did.”
Birge said that he stuck with the baits he has been working with all week, catching three largemouth off of beds with a lizard, two on a frog and the rest of his keepers on a Santone Lures buzzbait.
“I think with a near 4-pound lead, the plan for tomorrow is to go try and catch five spotted bass right away in the morning and get my mind right,” said Birge. “Once I get five keepers in the boat, I’m going to go sit on my largemouth and make them bite. All that I can do is fish for the biggest bag that I and we’ll see what happens.”

Western Carolina University Earns College Series Eastern Regional Win

Western Carolina University Earns College Series Eastern Regional Win

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Three patterns helped Western Carolina University prevail despite adverse weather conditions and a competitive field in the Carhartt Bassmaster College Series Eastern Regional presented by Bass Pro Shops. Austin Neary and Alex Frazier targeted spawning fish while also fishing nearby docks and rocks with dropshots and jerkbaits to bring in a three-day total of 42 pounds, 6 ounces and take the Eastern Regional title.

“All of our areas setup up for all three patterns,” Neary said. “It would be like a windy marina, so we could drop shot and jerkbait and then catch spawners off bed.”

As practice for the Eastern Regional came to a close, fish flooded the banks in an attempt to find a mate and make a bed to spawn. The first day of competition on Thursday saw partly cloudy skies and warm temperatures and the spawn and dock bite were on. The second day, Friday, brought a nasty cold front to the area and the jerkbait bite picked up with a few spawners still being picked off. Then on the final day Saturday the temperatures dropped to the 30s, and it took all three patterns for Western Carolina to pull off the win.

After B.A.S.S. College Tournament Manager Hank Weldon noted the excitement that Neary exhibited when coming to the stage and mentioned Frazier must be the calmer of the two, Frazier stated, “I could probably run through a brick wall right now.”

The excitement was evident from both Neary and Frazier as the two took the Eastern Regional in Frazier’s first at bat and what would have been Neary’s final college event had they not qualified for the Carhartt Bassmaster College Series National Championship with their win.

“Financially, I had already decided I wouldn’t be able to make it to the Wild Card, so this was it for me,” Neary said of the June event that will qualify more college teams for the National Championship.

Bother and sister Chelsey and Kristopher Queen of Bethel University finished second in the event, bringing in 40 pounds, 11 ounces over the course of three days.

“I’m excited we’re going to the National Championship,” Chelsey said. “I hate we lost out to these guys, but I want to congratulate them. But I guarantee you nobody had more fun than we did out on the water”

The Queens are the first brother-sister team to ever qualify for the National Championship.

Finishing third and also qualifying for the National Championship were Day 2 leaders from Appalachian State University, Kelly Johnson and Jeremy Gilley, who brought in 39-14 for three days.

The remainder of the Top 17 teams from the Eastern Regional will also move on to the National Championship to be held later this summer on a body of water to be announced within the next few weeks.

The Livingston Lures Leader award at the Eastern Regional went to Appalachian State University’s Johnson and Gilley for leading on Day 2.

Cole Blythe’s 6-pound, 10-ounce big bass from Day 1 earning University of North Carolina-Charlotte the Carhartt Big Bass honors for the event.

UNCC’s Blythe and John Auten also won the Bass Pro Nitro Big Bag award for the event with their Day 1 single-day weight of 16 pounds, 12 ounces.
