MLF BIG5 Angler Chad Grigsby St.Croix

VOICES OF VICTORY:

MLF BIG5 Angler Chad Grigsby

“Victory means being the best one particular week on one specific body of water… and holding the trophy at the end.”

PARK FALLS, Wisc. (March 9, 2021) – Success at the highest levels of professional angling isn’t easy. Ultimately, it requires beating a whole lot of talented and highly skilled people who all have the same goal: holding up the trophy at the end of the week.

Professional angler and St. Croix pro, Chad Grigsby of Maple Grove, Minnesota, fishes the ultra-competitive MLF Big 5.

“Victory in competitive fishing means being the best over the course of one particular week on one specific body of water,” Grigsby says. “You’re competing at the highest level, and you have to beat everyone who has the same goal as you do in order to earn the right to hold that trophy at the end of the week. You basically have to dissect the lake, figure out what is happening at that particular time… that week, that weather pattern. Ultimately, you have to be the best at figuring out how to get the biggest fish to bite that week, then execute. That’s victory.”

Grigsby has earned a reputation as being the guy who’s always tons of fun to be around on tour. It’s part of what happens when you love what you do. “I’m proud of my longevity,” he says. “A lot of guys come and go. I’m not a great fisherman by any means… I do good in some, I do bad in others… but you need to have that overall consistency. This is what I love to do and it’s what I’ve always wanted to do. I’m not KVD; I still struggle. But for me to be able to do this for 19 years… that’s an important personal victory. I’m proud of that and I’m proud of my accomplishments.”

St. Croix’s all-new made-in-the-USA Victory Series rods were conceived and designed to deliver bass anglers more victories on the water – no matter how they’re defined. Featuring technique-specific lengths, powers and actions that yield lightweight performance with extreme sensitivity, durability and balance via an all-new SCIII+ material, eight new Victory rods will be available to anglers at select St. Croix dealers and online beginning March 19. Angler-friendly retail prices for these new, American-crafted Victory rods range from $180 to $200.

“It’s just amazing how St. Croix can keep coming up with better ways to make a rod,” Grigsby says. “I get it in my hands and it’s like, how did they get it better than the last one? They raise the bar every single time they come out with a new line… and they’ve definitely done it on this Victory Series. It’s great to be with a company that can consistently look forward. That’s another victory.

Bassmaster Elite At Sabine River Back On For April

[print_link]

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The Bassmaster Elite at Sabine River, which was rescheduled for August, will return to its originally scheduled dates April 8-11 after Texas Gov. Greg Abbott rescinded mandates that would have dramatically reduced the number of fans permitted on-site.

Previous Elite events in Orange, Texas have drawn record-breaking crowds — in three previous visits, the crowds totaled more than 96,000.

Despite the rollback of previous COVID-related mandates, officials from both B.A.S.S. and Orange County have cautioned that fans should still exercise caution in large gatherings and encourage measures such as social distancing and frequent hand-washing or use of sanitizer to reduce the risk of spreading germs.

“We’re happy to work with officials in Orange to get this event back on April’s schedule,” said B.A.S.S. CEO Bruce Akin. “These unprecedented times have truly emphasized the need to work with great partners, and the flexibility from officials and our hosts at the Greater Orange County Chamber of Commerce is deeply appreciated.

“Our priority is offering an event that is responsibly operated and safe for everyone involved while still being fun and competitive.”

The Sonar Wars Rage On by Josh Boyd

The sale of fishing-related equipment is a booming industry, which accounts for millions of dollars in annual revenue. However, few sectors of this industry are currently experiencing as great of growth as that which pertains to fish finding sonar equipment.

Over the past decade, the industry’s “big three”, which includes Garmin, Lowrance, and Humminbird, have been embroiled in a neck and neck race for sonar superiority. It seems as if each of these three manufacturers debut new, exciting tech with each passing year, in a continual bid to one-up their closest competitor.

Garmin recently announced their next move in the heated chess match that is being played among today’s top-tier sonar manufacturers. The company has released a new Sonar Imagery chart overlay for its Navionics equipped units, that will present the bottom hardness of 121 of the nation’s most renowned fisheries.

This new overlay feature will provide a vivid depiction of each lake bed detailed within the program. Additionally, these overlays will also be available to all mobile consumers, using Apple or Android devices, through the Navionics Boating app.

At the moment, Garmin continues to ride the wave of popularity surrounding its Panoptix LiveScope sonar system. This latest announcement lends further credibility to the company’s bid for the top spot within their given market sector.

At the current moment, many are left to wonder whether or not the industry’s “big three” sonar manufacturers are still in a dead heat, or if Garmin has indeed flexed enough muscle to claim superiority? Perhaps we will be presented with updated offerings from Lowrance and Humminbird in the near future, just in time to keep things interesting.

No matter the case, it is safe to say that the avid angler is the true winner in the ongoing sonar wars, as subsequent technological advancements continue to materialize at warp speed.
