Tennessee’s Abram Extends Lead at Tackle Warehouse Pro Circuit at Lake Martin

ALEXANDER CITY, Ala. (March 20, 2020) – It was more of the same Friday on Day Three of the Tackle Warehouse Pro Circuit at Lake Martin in Alexander City, Alabama – everyone caught a limit of bass and tournament leader pro Jason Abram of Piney Flats, Tennessee, continued to hold on to his top spot. Abram weighed a five-bass limit totaling 12 pounds, 6 ounces to maintain his lead heading into Championship Saturday in the tournament which features 150 bass-fishing professionals from around the world competing for a top prize of up to $135,000.

The field is now trimmed to the final 10 pros for Saturday, and Abram (15 bass, 41-6) will start with a 2½-pound advantage over second-place pro Ron Nelson of Berrien Springs, Michigan, (15 bass, 38-14) the 2019 FLW Rookie of the Year and current Angler of the Year leader. Also in contention for the win in third place is Matt Becker of Finleyville, Pennsylvania, (15 bass, 38-2). All three are seeking their first career FLW pro-level victory.

“This is a dream come true,” said Abram about leading the event heading into the final day of competition. “I set out however many years ago with the goal to win one of these, and I’ve finally got a really good shot at this one. I feel a little nervous – almost like pre-game jitters. Tomorrow is going to be a really fun day.”

Abram brought a five-bass limit to the scale consisting of two spotted bass and three largemouth bass Friday.

“I’m starting off every morning throwing a Skinny Dipper and just covering water, trying to catch five spotted bass,” Abram said. “Yesterday I got lucky and caught a big one, and today I had another one hooked up but it pulled off on me.

“I’m just waiting on the sun and heat to come up, then I’m chasing largemouth in the very backs of creeks with a Flirt Worm,” Abram continued. “I’m catching tons of spots but only getting around 5 or 6 largemouth bites each day.”

Abram said that he is 100-percent committed to his pattern and plans to roll with it all the way through the final day of competition.

“I’m not around big-enough spotted bass to win this thing, so my game plan is not going to change tomorrow,” Abram went on to say. “I’m going to throw the Skinny Dipper early, then once it warms up I’ll switch to the Flirt Worm and try to put some big ones in the boat. I think 12½ to 14 pounds is the mark – if I can catch that, I think I can put this one away.”

Learn How To Catch Offshore Bass From A Professional Angler!

Offshore fishing can be tough, but with the right electronics and a little patience, it can pay off big time. Locating fish is the most challenging part of offshore fishing but once you do that, the fish will usually bite. Watch along as pro angler; Brian Latimer showcases his approach to offshore fishing.

Stay On The Graph!

Brian idles around using his motor scanning for fishy looking areas on his electronics. Once he is able to locate structure or specific fish, he stops and makes a cast. Another thing he looks for is baitfish. If he locates a school of baitfish, he is confident that as a hungry bass will be near.

Dropping It On Their Head

His first fish is a spotted bass that fell victim to the TRD Ned Rig in mudbug on a 1/5 oz jig head. Once Brian sees a fish on his graph he instantly drops his bait. The slender profile of his soft plastic paired with a heavy jig head help his bait get down to the fish quicker.

Where There Is One, There Are Many

Spotted bass are known for schooling up in packs, especially in the winter months. Once Brian catches one spot, he’ll continue to fish that same area knowing others are nearby.

Fish Hugging The Buttom

It can be hard to mark a fish that is hugging tight to the bottom, so keeping a close eye on your graph will help locate more fish.

Some fish will have mud on their bellies when you’re bringing them in. If you see this, you know they are glued to the bottom.

Gear Up For The Offshore Season At Karl’s

Here are a few of the baits Brian was showcasing in the video. Karl’s Bait and Tackle is home to the latest and greatest in all things fishing.

Tennessee’s Abram Takes Lead at Tackle Warehouse Pro Circuit at Lake Martin

Tennessee’s Abram Takes Lead at Tackle Warehouse Pro Circuit at Lake Martin

ALEXANDER CITY, Ala. (March 19, 2020) – Pro Jason Abram of Piney Flats, Tennessee, caught five bass weighing 17 pounds, 10 ounces Thursday to take control of the leaderboard after Day Two of the Tackle Warehouse Pro Circuit at Lake Martin in Alexander City, Alabama. Abram’s two-day total of 10 bass weighing 29 pounds even gives him a 1-pound, 9-ounce advantage heading into Day Three of the four-day competition that features a field of bass-fishing professionals from around the world competing for a top cash award of up to $135,000.

“I’m fishing mid-lake, running a pattern,” said Abram, who is fishing in his 11th season as a professional in FLW’s top-level circuit. “I was running and gunning – I hit around 30 stops today.

“I started out in the morning catching spotted bass – I probably caught around 30 of them and my limit weighed around 7 pounds,” Abram continued. “I had a key bite around 9 a.m. that clued me in and showed me something that I hadn’t seen all week. It was the first fish that I had caught like that, and it was a good one.

“I ended up culling every one of those spots out and managed to bring one big spot and four largemouth to the scale.”

Although Abram remained tight-lipped about the specific details of his pattern, he said that he was fishing “really shallow” and throwing just two baits – both made by Reaction Innovations.

“I’m not sight-fishing like most of the guys are,” Abram said. “I need the sun, so the cloud cover being forecast tomorrow will probably hurt me significantly. I’ll catch some spots in the morning, and hopefully the sun will show its head. If not, I’ll have to scramble.”

The top 30 pros that made the cut and will fish Friday on Lake Martin are:

A Time to Wonder . . . and a Time to Fish

A Time to Wonder . . . and a Time to Fish

Z-Man® leadership lays out pandemic-response plan, helps calm concerns over health and economic hardships

Ladson, SC (March 19, 2020) – In challenging times; when you simply feel the need to step back, take a deep breath and clear your head; when returning to nature is the best way to remind yourself what truly matters . . . it’s time to go fishing.

Even now, as a new pandemic threatens to alter our daily routines—to take us out of our comfort zones— what hasn’t changed is our desire or our freedom to go fishing. It’s an idea and a lifestyle shared by every member of the Z-Man Fishing Products team.

Of course, we all wish it were as simple as just go fishing. It’s why as news of the spread of COVID-19 and its effects began to hit home, Z-Man elders were already huddling and enacting a three-tier plan to care for the entire Z-Man family—one that embraces employees and their families, customers, distributors and retail partners, as well as all their friends in the greater angling community.

“We’re very fortunate to be part of a family owned company that cares deeply about its employees, while simultaneously keeping an eye on the big picture implications for our business,” expresses Daniel Nussbaum, President of Z-Man Fishing Products. “Our top priority remains the health and safety of our employees, the Z-Man family.

“As we enter a time of economic uncertainty, we want to continue to provide a stable income for all our staff. As such, we’ll continue to operate our warehouse and production facilities at full capacity, so long as it’s safe to do so. At the same time, we’ve implemented increased cleaning protocols and have temporarily closed our building to outside visitors. Of course, we’ve also encouraged our employees to practice social distancing, both outside of work and inside our facility. And, in the event that we deem it necessary to close, we have put a plan in place to continue to pay our employees.”

Providing more peace-of-mind, Nussbaum notes an additional employee aid. “We are also offering extended paid leave for anyone experiencing adverse symptoms or needing to care for an ill family member.”

On the supply and production side of the equation, Z-Man is already acting to assure its products remain widely available to the angling-consumer, across North America as well as overseas. Moreover, while other companies have been left vulnerable to supply chain issues in other countries, Z-Man controls its own destiny by continuing to manufacture the majority of its products on site at its South Carolina based headquarters.

“Throughout this challenging time, we will remain laser focused on addressing our customers’ needs, both present and future,” adds Nussbaum. “To accomplish this perpetual goal, we are continuing to make and ship products as quickly as possible. We have also secured new raw materials and the components needed to continuously supply our customers with the best-selling lures on the market for the foreseeable future.”

While Nussbaum and his team anticipate a potential short-term reduction in business, he says they’ll use the opportunity to build ample product inventory to better serve Z-Man customers. “We’re pressing forward with over a dozen new product projects due to debut at ICAST. Certainly, we’re being cautiously optimistic about the future. Strategically, we want to be in a comfortable position when things break loose once again.”

Z-Man Chairman Jonathan Zucker doubles down on his company’s commitment to hold course. “We are totally committed to the well-being, health and safety of our team members and their families. Likewise, as critical members of the Z-Man community, our customers deserve our very best efforts. We will do our best to continue to get our products to your doorstep, and while we do not expect any delays in product delivery, we certainly ask for your patience as this global situation develops.”

A final and far-from-inconsequential point of focus for Z-Man points back to our passion for the pursuit we all enjoy. “We absolutely encourage social distancing,” adds Zucker. “Right now, one of the safest forms of social distancing is getting outside and fishing—certainly to the extent that it can be done safely and within any local restrictions. We strongly encourage our customers to continue fishing, as the enjoyment, relaxation and stress-relief provided by casting a Z-Man lure can certainly help ease the tensions we’re all currently experiencing.”

Which perhaps, once again, simply goes to prove: There’s no such thing as a bad day to go fishing.

ALEXANDER CITY, Ala. (March 18, 2020) – A field of bass fishing professionals from around the world began their four-day competition for a top award of up to $135,000 at the Tackle Warehouse Pro Circuit at Lake Martin Wednesday in Alexander City, Alabama.

Rookie pro Barron Adams of Mineral Bluff, Georgia, weighed a five-bass limit totaling 17 pounds, 2 ounces to take the early lead after Day One. Adams holds a 15-ounce lead over pro Derrick Snaveley of Piney Flats, Tennessee, who caught five bass weighing 16-3, good for second place.

“I was fishing on the lower end of the lake, trying to sight fish for most of the day,” said Adams, who finished the season ranked No. 12 in the Toyota Series Southeastern division last year. “I caught the big one first thing this morning off a bed. Then I ran around and plucked a few more and tried to find some big ones for tomorrow.”

Adams said he caught his big one – an 8-pound, 13-ounce giant – on a Texas-rigged white Gambler Burner Craw, but he also weighed in a few fish on a 3/8-ounce green-pumpkin-colored jig with a green-pumpkin Zoom Fat Albert Twin Tail Grub. His limit that he brought to the scale consisted of four largemouth and one spotted bass.

“I found a 6-pounder and a 4-pounder still on the bed. They wouldn’t bite for me today, but hopefully they will tomorrow,” the Georgia pro said.

“I’m in the last flight tomorrow, and during practice it seemed like I was getting bit a little more later in the evening so hopefully that is a good thing,” Adams went on to say. “First thing in the morning I’m going to run to those bedders and pick a couple of fish off and then I’ll start fishing.

“I can throw a shaky-head around docks and get bit doing that if I have to. Hopefully I can get what I need.”

The top 10 pros after day one on Lake Martin are:

1st:       Barron Adams of Mineral Bluff, Ga., five bass, 17-2

2nd:      Derrick Snavely of Piney Flats, Tenn., five bass, 16-3
