2019 Toyota Bassmaster AOY Championship Will Be Held On Lake St. Clair

Elite Series Pro Chad Morgenthaler fights a smallmouth bass in the 2017 Bassmaster Elite at Lake St. Clair. B.A.S.S. officials announced today that Lake St. Clair will serve as the host venue for the 2019 Toyota Bassmaster Angler of the Year Championship on Sept. 26-29.

2019 Toyota Bassmaster AOY Championship Will Be Held On Lake St. Clair

HARRISON TOWNSHIP, Mich. — The Bassmaster Tournament Trail has visited Lake St. Clair six times since the early 1990s, including twice for high-stakes Elite Series events.

But the stakes have never been higher than they’ll be when the trail returns to the massive 275,000-acre fishery in late September.

B.A.S.S. officials announced today that Lake St. Clair will serve as the host venue for the 2019 Toyota Bassmaster Angler of the Year Championship on Sept. 26-29. The tournament, which carries a whopping $1 million total purse, will decide the 2019 Toyota Bassmaster Angler of the Year winner, the 2019 DICK’S Sporting Goods Rookie of the Year and the bulk of the lineup for the 2020 Bassmaster Classic.

“B.A.S.S. has had some great events at Lake St. Clair, and the people there have always been enthusiastic and supportive fans,” said B.A.S.S. CEO Bruce Akin. “This has already been one of the most exciting years we’ve ever had on the Bassmaster Elite Series, and I can’t think of a better place for it to end than on a great smallmouth fishery like St. Clair.”

The hosts for the event will be the County of Macomb and the Sterling Heights Regional Chamber of Commerce & Industry. Takeoffs and weigh-ins will be held at Lake St. Clair Metropark — and they’ll once again feature the party atmosphere that fans have come to expect from the Elite Series’ season-ending celebration.

Anglers will compete Thursday and Friday, Sept. 26-27, and then have an off-day built around interaction with fishing fans on Saturday, and conclude the championship on Sunday. Saturday’s activities will include an Outdoors Expo with merchandise, food and drink vendors and sponsor activations and promotions. Elite anglers will provide seminars revealing their best bass fishing techniques, and they’ll be available to sign autographs, mingle with fans and talk fishing.

“Between now and the 2020 Bassmaster Classic, B.A.S.S. is celebrating the ‘Year of the Fan,’” Akin said. “We’ll be doing special things to show appreciation for our fans throughout that time, and we’ll certainly be doing plenty during the AOY Championship.

“Obviously, the tournament and the crowning of a new AOY champion will be the main attraction at Lake St. Clair. But there will also be a festival with music, barbecue and fun things for everyone who attends.”

Anglers will be allowed to fish Lake St. Clair and all rivers, creeks and canals connected to the lake. Anglers will not be allowed to travel south of the Ambassador Bridge Highway 3 in the Detroit River or north of the I-94 bridges in the St. Clair and Black rivers, according to B.A.S.S. Tournament Director Trip Weldon.

The AOY standings change throughout the season, with anglers earning points each time they fish a regular-season Bassmaster Elite Series event. Only the Top 50 from the 75-angler Elite Series field will qualify for the AOY Championship, where they’ll have a chance to win the 50th AOY title ever awarded by B.A.S.S. and the $100,000 paycheck that goes with it.

The history of the award dates back to 1970 when the first AOY trophy was won by bass fishing superstar Bill Dance. Since then, legends of the sport like Jimmy Houston, Hank Parker, Davy Hite, Rick Clunn and Roland Martin have all earned the title. Martin won the crown an amazing nine times.

Canadian pro Chris Johnston grabbed the early lead in this year’s AOY standings after finishing second in the Elite Series opener on the St. Johns River in Florida and 10th in the event that followed at Georgia’s Lake Lanier. With a points total of 190, Johnston is followed in the standings by Scott Canterbury of Alabama (182), Lee Livesay of Texas (181) and Patrick Walters of South Carolina (176).

Walters said the AOY title is something every bass fisherman dreams about.

“This is my first season on the Elite Series — and from the moment I knew I was going to be fishing here, my goal was to win AOY,” Walters said. “That’s it. It doesn’t get any better than that in bass fishing. If I win Angler of the Year, the Rookie of the Year title will take care of itself.”

In addition to deciding the various season championship races and 39 berths for the Classic, the Toyota Bassmaster Angler of the Year Championship will award $25,000 and an Elite Series trophy to the angler who has the heaviest total weight for the three-day competition.

“The Bassmaster Elite Series is a year-long race to determine the best bass angler on tour,” Akin said. “Fans can witness the culmination of all that at the AOY Championship.”

B.A.S.S. also announced the dates of its first-ever “makeup tournament,” which will only take place if one of the nine regular-season Elite events has to be canceled this year. In the event that might happen, anglers, staff, sponsors and others have been asked to set aside the weekend prior to AOY — Sept. 19-22 — to make up any canceled tournament.

Lowrance, Simrad and B&G Announce Products Will Not Be Affected By GPS Week Rollover

[print_link]

Egersund, Norway – Lowrance, Simrad and B&G – leading brands in the design and manufacture of world-class marine navigation, autopilot, radar, communications and fishfinding systems – announced today that the 2019 GPS Week Rollover will not adversely impact their products. Experts in Research and Development from Lowrance, Simrad and B&G have been preparing for the upcoming event for months, testing a wide range of equipment and have confirmed that all current generation devices are 100-percent compatible with the GPS rollover event.

The Global Positioning System (GPS) has its own date and time scale based on counting weeks and seconds within a week; however, the field that contains the week number is limited to 1024. A GPS rollover event occurs when this counter reaches week 1023 and then rolls back to week 0. The event happens approximately every 20 years, with the upcoming GPS Week Rollover taking place on April 6, 2019. This will be the second time the rollover has occurred.

Of all products currently available from Lowrance, Simrad or B&G, none have any known issues with GPS Week Rollover. The GPS chipset suppliers used by the three brands were aware of this event and had this covered in their test and validation plans for the more recent chipset designs.

“We are continuing to work through our product portfolio to identify any legacy products that may not function correctly following the GPS Week Rollover event and we are producing software updates where required,” said Alan Davis, Product Line Director at Navico. “Lowrance, Simrad and B&G expect to support all products produced within the last 10 years – approximately – with software updates if a fix is required. Typically affected products will still show correct position but display incorrect date and time; in extreme cases position may be affected.”

Cobb’s Hometown Advantage Lands Him In The Lead At Bassmaster Elite At Lake Hartwell

South Carolina’s Brandon Cobb leads Day 1 of the Bassmaster Elite at Lake Hartwell with 19 pounds, 9 ounces.

Cobb’s Hometown Advantage Lands Him In The Lead At Bassmaster Elite At Lake Hartwell

[print_link]

ANDERSON, S.C. — When Brandon Cobb realized the bass might be spawning for this week’s Bassmaster Elite at Lake Hartwell, he grimaced just a little bit.

Cobb is a South Carolina native who grew up fishing Hartwell, and he knows things about the lake that others don’t. He was afraid the spring spawn would bring the bass into clear view for the entire field, neutralizing his home-field advantage.

Turns out, they are spawning.

But so far, his advantage seems to be intact.

Cobb brought five bass to the scales today that weighed 19 pounds, 9 ounces and took the Day 1 lead at the third Elite Series event of the season. He has a 2-pound advantage over North Carolina pro Hank Cherry and Georgia pro Micah Frazier, who each caught 17-9.

“There are a lot of fish on bed out here right now,” Cobb said. “But I know what this lake looks like when there’s an all-out spawn going on, and it’s just not happening.

“There have been some fish caught on beds, and there will be some more caught off the beds. But judging from today and from what I saw in practice, the spawn is not in full swing.”

Cobb said he caught a couple of bass on spawning nests himself today, but he also caught prespawn and postspawn fish.

His experience on the lake played a big role in his first-round success — just as he’d hoped it would.

“I didn’t really have a specific pattern today,” said Cobb, a former member of the Clemson University bass fishing team who holds a degree in wildlife and fisheries biology. “I basically just ran a lot of stuff where I’ve caught them in the past. Since practice was so bad, I just fished a lot of stuff I was familiar with.”

Just as Cobb wouldn’t offer specific details about how he caught his bass, Cherry was vague about how he ended up in second place. The seventh-year Elite Series pro weighed in four solid largemouth and one impressive shoal bass that weighed just over 3 pounds.

“I sight fished a little bit,” Cherry said. “I threw a wacky worm around a little bit. Then I did some damage later on in the day, doing what I do best.”

He wouldn’t elaborate on his final point, but he was obviously pleased with his results.

“That shoal bass was one of the biggest ones I’ve ever caught,” Cherry said. “I caught three of those today. It was just a good day all the way around.”

After what he described as “terrible practice,” Frazier said he tried some new areas today and found what he believed to be prespawn bass. He used the popular term “junk fishing” to describe the conglomeration of tactics he used.

“I caught some sight fishing, some on topwater and one or two on a dock,” Frazier said. “It was just ‘Junk Fishing 101,’ but that’s what you do here sometimes because there are a lot of ways to catch them on this lake.”

The tournament could take an interesting turn during Friday’s second round with a strong band of storms expected to hit the Lake Hartwell area around sunrise. Winds and heavy rains could make it nearly impossible for anglers to fish for the few bass that are spawning in shallow water.

A steadily falling lake level could take the spawning element even further out of the equation.

“The weather is not going to let us do any sight fishing tomorrow, and I kind of threw that out the window today already,” said North Carolina pro Matt Arey, who placed fourth with 16-15. “We’ll just change it up tomorrow. I was slow and methodical today, and I’ll probably pick up a few more moving baits tomorrow.”

Mississippi pro Brock Mosley took the early lead for the Phoenix Boats Big Bass award with a largemouth that weighed 5-9.

The tournament will resume Friday with takeoff at 7 a.m. ET from Green Pond Landing and Event Center and weigh-in back at the same site at 3:15 p.m. Only the Top 35 anglers will advance after Friday’s round.

B.A.S.S. Unveils ‘The Year Of The Fan’ Celebration

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — On the heels of the best-attended Bassmaster Classic in history, B.A.S.S. announces a yearlong celebration of the heart and soul of the sport of professional bass fishing: the fans.

“The GEICO Bassmaster Classic presented by DICK’S Sporting Goods crushed the attendance records with more than 153,000 fans descending on Knoxville, Tenn.,” said B.A.S.S. CEO Bruce Akin. “The atmosphere was electric and proved that bass fishing fans are the most passionate and rabid fans that exist. So, we decided to give them a yearlong thank-you gift with our ‘Year of the Fan’ celebration.”

“The simple truth is, without fanatical bass anglers, I’d probably have to get a real job,” said Bassmaster Elite Series pro Brandon Lester. “The everyday bass fisherman is the real hero in this industry, and I look forward to thanking them every chance I get for the rest of the season and beyond.”

That will add up to a lot of thank-yous, according to Jim Sexton, B.A.S.S. Vice President of Digital. “Not only did fans show up in droves to watch the Classic in person, but we had more than 25 million minutes watched on Bassmaster.com during Classic Week. And these fans watched from all over the world. We had 179 countries log on to Bassmaster.com to catch the action from the biggest stage in bass fishing.” It seems bass fishing truly is a universal language.

The Year of the Fan celebration will kick off at the next Elites Series event being held on Lake Hartwell, and culminate at the 50th anniversary of the Bassmaster Classic next March. Alongside B.A.S.S. and the Elite Series pros, sponsors of B.A.S.S. will be actively joining the celebration by bringing fans incredible experiences at the Elite Series venues. Here are just a few highlights of what fans can expect when they attend the Elite Series “Fandamonium”:

  • B.A.S.S. Member Appreciation Day: Every Sunday at Elite events, the first 100 B.A.S.S. members to show their membership cards at the B.A.S.S. booth will receive a B.A.S.S. hat.
  • Angler Alley: Fans can meet and greet Elite Series pros from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturdays prior to weigh-in. Bassmaster LIVE cameras will be on site to interview fans.
  • Elite LIVE Watch Party: Special guests will be on hand to join fans in watching Bassmaster LIVE on Sundays from 12:30 to 3 p.m. Academy Sports + Outdoors will be providing special giveaways to fans on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Free Elite Angler Clinics: Fans will have a chance to get some free advice from Elite Series pros on a wide range of topics, as well as participate in Q&A sessions with the pros.
  • Fish Care V.I.P.: The new Yamaha Live Release boats will become the platform for a few lucky fans to participate in a V.I.P. conservation program during all Elite events.
  • Fandamonium Dance Off: Fans can show off their moves prior to weigh-ins for special prizes.
  • Military and First Responder Appreciation Day: Every Saturday at Elite events, the first 100 active military/first responders or veterans to show their IDs in the B.A.S.S. booth will receive an official Bassmaster hat.
  • Mercury Concert Series: Starting with the Toyota Bassmaster Texas Fest benefiting Texas Parks & Wildlife Department on May 4th, fans will be treated to a free concert provided by Mercury Marine.
  • Toyota Fishing: Toyota is offering a variety of exciting activities for all fishing fans to enjoy at Elite events, including Toyota Build-A-Bait and Casting Kids Youth Activities, Meet the Pros – with Team Toyota Anglers Brandon Lester & Matt Arey, Toyota Interactive Vehicle Displays, Toyota Owner Appreciation gifts and more.
  • Demo Rides: Fans will get some exciting boat rides courtesy of Nitro, Skeeter and Triton.
  • Games Galore: Prior to weigh-ins on Saturday and Sunday, Berkley, Carhartt, Abu Garcia, Humminbird, Minn Kota, Power-Pole, Bass Pro Shops, Talon, Mossy Oak Fishing, Lowrance and other manufacturers and vendors will be offering fun games and cool prizes to fans who participate.

These efforts to thank B.A.S.S. fans are just the tip of the iceberg.

“We want to get to know the anglers who follow our sport,” said Bassmaster Magazine Editor James Hall. “So, we will be reaching out to our 55,000-plus Life Members to let them tell their stories. We will be interviewing weekend anglers at boat ramps across the country to get tips for Bassmaster readers. We are going to have Elite Series pros interview fans instead of vice-versa. We believe that every bass angler has a compelling story to tell, from one who fishes on weekends from a kayak, to the competitive angler who has a full-time job and fishes the Bassmaster Opens. To celebrate and thank these men and women, we want to tell their stories.”

Additionally, the B.A.S.S. digital team will be highlighting fans on Bassmaster.com, as well as all social channels.

“We are going to be interacting with fans in a big way,” said Sexton. “There are around 1.6 million fans following B.A.S.S. social media channels. We want these anglers to share photos on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter using #yearofthefan, and we want to read their stories about fishing with family and friends. Plus, we will have plenty of fan contests throughout the year on the website. It’s all about the fans.”

B.A.S.S. legend and Elite Series pro Rick Clunn puts it best: “In the grand scheme of things, it’s not about how successful I am as a pro. The number of trophies I have on a mantel doesn’t push the sport forward. Instead, it is the knowledge that we, as an angling community, share with each other that promotes passion to pursue excellence. I am so thankful for the passion I see every day from B.A.S.S. fans. They are the heartbeat of our sport.”

How the St. Croix Pro seized the opportunity to climb the ranks

Opportunity Knocks: Jesse Wiggins Reflects

on The Bassmaster Classic

How the St. Croix Pro seized the opportunity to climb the ranks

[print_link]

Park Falls, WI (April 3, 2019) – St. Croix bass pro Jesse Wiggins just finished competing in the biggest event in bass fishing, the Bassmaster Classic held on the Tennessee River in Knoxville, Tennessee, placing third, just behind champion Ott DeFoe and second place finisher, Jacob Wheeler. It was a narrow margin of total weight between these three anglers, which literally came down to who had the best bites and was able to capitalize on each and every opportunity at hand to land a fish. Such calls into question how tournament anglers prepare for and act on opportunity.

For example, Wiggins had been busy for weeks and months preparing his gear and mindset for this tournament of tournaments. Wiggins’ third consecutive Bassmaster Classic, he says a big part of that was choosing the right rods for the prevailing combination of presentations and locations fished.

Wiggins often plays the Legend Glass card when the pot calls for crankbaits.

“When it comes to the Bassmaster Classic, you have to control everything you can control, including all your equipment. In terms of rods, I only use the best stuff possible so when I do get a bite I can land it. Each cast is critical and you absolutely have to be able to land a fish when given the opportunity. I know with St. Croix rods there is no weak link.”

And when it comes to fishing crankbaits, Wiggins says there’s nothing he’d rather be fishing than fiberglass—and for a number of reasons that help him make the most of every cast.

“It’s hard to believe how sensitive Legend Glass rods are. With most glass rods you lose sensitivity, but not with Legend Glass. They’re so sensitive that you can throw flat-sided crankbaits which don’t have a lot of thump—which is the reason you throw them in the cooler waters of pre-spawn—but you can still feel their minimal action with the St. Croix Legend Glass so good you can tell if your bait is ever getting fouled by a leaf, stick, or anything else. Feeling that immediately so you can get your bait back to running right is a key deal in tournaments where you absolutely cannot waste a single cast. Being able to feel the bait at all times plus having the glass rod so the fish can load up on the bait are two significant reasons I’m such a big fan. Fiberglass rods are also great casting tools with a moderate action that makes their use with baits like crankbaits and chatterbaits ideal. Of course, this moderate action also comes into play when fighting fish and keeping them buttoned to land without fish getting off. Those reasons and more are why I chose St. Croix fiberglass rods as my primary tools for fishing the Classic. They’re almost like an insurance policy.”

Wiggins expected the fish to be in full pre-spawn mode and in terms of location had key spots pretty much dialed in from the get-go.

“It was pretty simple for me once I got there and saw the water color and temperature. I knew if I was going to catch them it was going to be a shallow crankbait deal. So, I had two main rods on deck—the 6’10’’ medium heavy moderate St. Croix Legend Glass LGC610MHM and the 6’10” medium power moderate St. Croix Mojo Bass Glass MGC610MM TARGET CRANKER. I had those two rigged up and when practice started I started catching them immediately with shallow-running crankbaits. With those rods, I used anything from a little flat-sided shallow-diving crankbait, square bill, and anything that dove to about ten feet, all on 12 pound Seaguar AbrazX fluorocarbon line,” says Wiggins.

“Given the areas I was practicing in, I figured it was going to be tough. I was fishing in the creeks and flats but I knew the bigger bass would be coming off the main river to spawn, and that’s exactly what happened. Part of why everything played out so well for me is the time I took preparing my rods, baits, and overall plan of attack, which you don’t have to be a professional angler to practice. Preparation can help any level angler make the most of whatever bite’s at hand. There was no question that I could rely on my equipment one-hundred percent so I could focus on putting fish in the boat. And it got better and better each day of the tournament. On days two and three I got some big bites and put myself back up there in the running. It wasn’t quite enough to place first or second, but I’m incredibly happy with how everything turned out. I was only a couple bites away from the win.”

Plan for Remote Fishing with Offline Mapping  – Fishidy

Plan for Remote Fishing with Offline Mapping

Access high quality maps, even in remote locations or areas with poor connectivity

MADISON, Wis. (April 3, 2019) – It’s a busy time when the ice melts. Anglers all across North America are busy planning or packing for fishing travel, and many of these trips will take place in remote areas that have little-to-no connectivity. But a lack of cell phone coverage and Wi-Fi doesn’t mean anglers need to fish blind.

Offline mapping is one of the latest premium features from Fishidy, the popular mobile app and map-based social network for anglers. The feature allows Fishidy Premium users to download any Fishing Hot Spots® map on the app, including depth contours, marked spots, structures and more to their mobile device ahead of time.

“Some of the best fishing happens in the middle of nowhere, where connectivity can be a challenge,” says Fishidy Marketing Manager, Jon Giacalone. “We’ve listened to the members of our Fishidy community, who have told us that this is a pretty common issue. The Offline Mapping feature now provides our Premium members with 100% access to whatever maps they want, whenever and wherever they want them.”

Using Fishidy Offline Mapping is easy; simply select a map area in the app, download it when you have connectivity, and it will be accessible on that device at any time in the future, without the need for phone or internet service.

As the open-water fishing season ramps up, Offline Mapping will have a significant impact on the exploration efforts—and, ultimately, the success—of anglers throughout the North, whether they are fishing remote Canadian lakes, vast bodies of water like Minnesota’s Lake of the Woods, or even offshore areas of the Great Lakes.

Offline Mapping will pay similar dividends to saltwater anglers, who can download maps before heading offshore or into remote backwater areas that lack Wi-Fi or cell phone coverage.

Before you travel to fish, be sure to get the best source of fishing maps and information available. Learn more about Offline Mapping and other Premium Fishidy features at Fishidy.com.

Tips for Exhibiting Expos By Steven Slayton

Tips for Exhibiting Expos

By Steven Slayton

If you’re looking into setting up a booth at your next local fishing expo, the Bassmaster Classic or even ICAST then hopefully this article will help enhance your exhibiting experience.  When preparing a booth, a lot more goes into the process than just setting up a table and displaying your baits.  Here are a few helpful tips that you may overlook when setting up your first couple of shows.

First and foremost, you have to have the proper footwear. The first show I ever worked in the fishing industry was ICAST 2017.  I figured I would dress up and look nice to make a good first impression.  I wore a polo, jeans and a pair of Clark’s boots.  This was a big mistake.  Not only do these shows last 8-9 hours but they are multiple day shows and a good portion of your success depends on having high, positive energy.  This is nearly impossible to have when your dogs are barking 3-4 hours into the first day.  I quickly learned that Nike Air Max or Adidas Ultra Boosts are excellent shoes to work expos in.

To piggy back on the footwear, if you have the opportunity to acquire some carpet padding from Home Depot or Lowes, I strongly urge that you do so.  It might seem like a frivolous expense at the moment, but it will only add to your comfortability.  Also, if it is taken care of and handled properly during  set up and deconstruction of your booth, it can be used for future shows. Not only will this improve your expo experience, but it will also improve the buyer’s experience as well. The longer a buyer stays in your booth, the more likely they are to buy something!

Preparation is key when setting up your booth at an expo.  I always make sure to have bag of tools even if my booth doesn’t require them. The two most important things that I make sure never to forget are an extension cord and a multi-outlet power strip. This allows you to plug in your laptop, point of sale, or even charge your phone. A “Charging Station” is always a good idea to have incorporated into your booth. People travel far and wide for a lot of these shows and a place where they can stop and charge their phone is another way to draw them to closer to your product. Zip ties, duct tape, razor blades and a power drill with multiple bits are also a few things to think about bringing with you.  Chances are if you don’t need it, somebody else will.

The next thing I would emphasize while attending and working an expo would be proper sleep and hydration.  You may be rolling your eyes at how obvious these two things are, but I cannot express them enough.  When you’re done working your booth for the day, the work does not stop there. Meeting people from new businesses and networking is also a huge part of these fishing expos. Late nights and adult beverages are almost inevitable while working these shows, especially is cities like Orlando, Florida where there are a ton of things to do once the convention center closes down. The last thing you want to be when working on your feet all day is tired and hungover. Be sure to eat solid meals, drink water when you can, and go to sleep at a reasonable hour.

In conclusion, take care of all the variables that you are able to control. You may not be able to control how many people come into your booth or how much money each customer spends, but you are able to control your comfortability, preparedness, and nutrition.

  • Wear shoes that you’re going to be comfortable in all day.
  • Come prepared, Murphy’s Law states that what can go wrong, will go wrong. Be sure to have a tool or gadget for any situation imaginable.
  • Take care of yourself.  Start hydrating, eating right and sleeping right a week before the show and especially during.

No one can guarantee success at these expos.  What we can do is put the odds in our favor to the best of our ability and I believe these few tips will help you do that. With that being said, its 10:50 P.M. as I wrap up this article. Time to drink a bottle of water and get some shut-eye because I’ll be working the Bassmaster Classic in Knoxville, Tennessee for the rest of the week. I hope to see you all there!

Eric Rowe & Eddie Griggs Win Fishers of Men VA East March 30, 2019 Clarksville, VA

Another Fantastic Virginia East event!

Besor Fellowship hosted a packed house at the Boydton Olde Towne Center on Friday night. There were 44 teams registered for this event and 37 teams plus guests represented at the meeting, overall there were over 80 folks in attendance! After everyone had their fill of Spagetti and deserts, the Fishers of Men national chaplin and North Carolina Central director Ron Duffy presented the message. It was a word that struck home with many teams as there weres several Re-commitments of faith and a first time dedication to faith in Christ!

We were blessed with dry and warming weather heading in to the weekend and on Saturday, this had anticipaton high for some big weights! While the heavyweight bass didnt show up for the teams, the quantity certainly seemed to! This made for a very tight event as weights go, only 2 pounds seperated 1st and 20th place and many were within ounces of each other!

Eric Rowe and Eddie Griggs took 1st with 13.97 lbs as well as the big bass of 4.58, they also won Bonus Bucks for the event! They were second at out first tournament so these guys are really on a roll!

Ryan Roller and Garry Colwell took 2nd place with 13.04 lbs, they made a run at big fish but were just short, with one weighing 4.57 lbs.

Eddie Gantt and Bryce Henley and adult/junior team were third with 12.99lbs.

The rest of the money spots were:

4th: Jacob Kupselaitis/ Joseph Kupselaitis 12.89lbs

5th: Brandon Hill/Kevin King 12.70lbs

6th: Lewis Williams/Mariley Furrow 12.37lbs, a male/female team and also our Berkley Cast for Cash winners.

7th: Calton Hall/Jason Suggs 12.26lbs, also our second place Berkley Cast For Cash team

8th: Carl Sadler/ Aaron Sadler 12.23lbs

Our just out of the money team was Tyrone Guyse and David Lakeman who took home two new Berkley E-Motion rods. Bill and Billy Richardson took home our perserverance (Romas 5: 3-5) award with the smallest bag of the event!

Thanks so much to everyone who chooses to fish with Virginia East, we are so grateful to all of you and enjoy providing these events for you! A little bit of a break and then we’re back at it for stop #3, May 4th  on the Chickahominy river! See all of you soon!
