NEW PLANO KVD WORMFILE SPEEDBAGS DELIVER KVD-LEVEL PERFORMANCE AT AN ASTONISHINGLY FAIR PRICE

[print_link]

Plano, IL (March 14, 2018) – Kevin VanDam knows a thing or two about bass fishing. Need proof? VanDam has won the Super Bowl of bass tournaments, the Bassmaster Classic, an unprecedented four times. And he has been named the Bassmaster Elite Series Angler of the Year, seven times. Any questions?

Anglers like VanDam don’t outfish the rest of the crowd by leaving things to chance. So, what is it that separates the best anglers from the rest? Besides their inherent ability, pro anglers and guides consider organization, tackle and equipment management a critical component to their daily routine on the water. Ultimately, operating efficiently saves time. Making decisions quickly and having the ability to implement them is how elite anglers stay in the game longer. In KVD’s words, “If you’re looking for something, you’re not catching bass, and that’s a problem.”

KVD Wormfile Speedbags™ Model PLAB12700

Plano’s new KVD Wormfile Speedbags™ offer KVD-grade performance and efficiency for organizing plastics. Available in two different sizes, small and large, KVD Wormfile Speedbags are optimized for storing up to 20 or 40 individual bags of soft plastics, respectively. “These fast-access zippered bags keep individual bags of soft plastics upright and uniformly oriented, so you can find what you need fast,” says VanDam. “And Plano’s patented fold-down design allows them to be fully opened to reveal wide interiors for even greater visibility, while remaining sturdy and self-supporting.”

KVD Wormfile Speedbagsare constructed with a high-performance, waterproof fabric shell featuring a Thermoplastic Elastomer, or TPE coating. This durable design is the same TPE waterproof fabric shell found on KVD Signature Series Tackle Bags and offers unmatched water-resistant protection from the elements. The speedbags also feature a just right, bright red interior that not only improves visibility in low light, but won’t bling too brightly in direct sun either.

KVD Wormfile Speedbags™ Model PLAB11700

Like millions of other anglers, KVD relies on Plano to keep his fishing gear protected and well organized – at home, in the truck and on the water. “Obviously, my entire boat is geared towards efficiency with my tackle storage, and the foundation is the Plano 3700 Stowaway box. But, what I’m really excited about this season are the new KVD Wormfile Speedbags for organizing my plastics.

This storage option keeps the baits in the original, unique packaging, which is very desirable. Baits like Dream Shots and Ochos stay nice and straight and are easy to organize. Plus, baits like Rage Craws that are packaged in individual clams maintain the integrity of their unique packaging,” says VanDam. “This is much better than putting all of your baits in a big bag where appendages can become kinked or the body may end up bent. It’s a great system.”

Today’s soft plastic baits come in an ever-increasing number of styles, sizes and colors to cover a range of presentations and applications. That means even casual anglers carry more soft plastics with them than ever before. But carting around a selection of bulky plastics takes space, and simply piling them into a single bag makes finding what you’re looking for a challenging and time-consuming proposition. KVD doesn’t go that route, so why should you?

Affordable KVD Wormfile Speedbags are just what bass anglers need to organize soft plastics by style, size or color and label the exteriors to make finding exactly what you need ever easier. These classy black bags feature bright red accents and interiors, failsafe looped zipper pulls and side-carry handles for transport. Ultra-efficient storage of soft plastic baits has never been easier… or looked this good.

Plano KVD Wormfile Speedbags™ Features and Specifications

Model PLAB11700 / 9.5”L x 4.5”W x 6.25”H / MSRP $14.99

Model PLAB12700 / 14”L x 4.5”W x 5.5”H / MSRP $19.99

It’s no coincidence the world’s most successful competitive angler trusts Plano to protect and transport his gear. New KVD Signature Series Tackle Bags and Wormfile SpeedbagsTM provide avid anglers with customizable storage, premium-grade protection and unmatched organization and access. So be like KVD; power on and fish fast. These exceptional new bags will take care of the rest.

Is This the Hottest Bait on the Pro Bass Circuit?

Z-Man set to unleash new ¾-ounce ChatterBait® JackHammer at the Bassmaster Classic

LADSON, SC (MARCH 14, 2018) – Bassmaster Elite Series angler Brett Hite calls it ‘the Ferrari of bladed bass jigs.’ It’s a statement that’s hard to dispute when you consider the Phoenix, Arizona based bass fishing pro has won over a million dollars on bladed jigs.

Within the past month alone, the ChatterBait JackHammer vibrating jig has chalked up a pile of cash and two major tournament wins on the BASS and FLW circuits. You begin to understand why so many top anglers today brandish the radical bait — the fruits of a two-and-a-half year, collaborative project between Hite, Z-Man Fishing and influential Japanese luremaker, EverGreen International.

.’

Z-Man’s new ¾-ounce ChatterBait JackHammer is hot of the presses, just in time for the Bassmaster Classic.

Previously available in 3/8- and ½-ounce sizes, Z-Man will release a new ¾-ounce size ChatterBait JackHammer, just in time for the 2018 Bassmaster Classic.

“Everything about the ChatterBait JackHammer is high-level and ultra-refined,” says Hite. “It took us a full year, for example, just to perfect a process for applying detailed paint finishes to the bait’s stainless steel, hex shaped ChatterBlade®. This is a super-tuned, efficient bladed jig that starts vibrating with the very first turn of the reel handle.”

Hite adds that the bait also features a flat-bottom, low-center-of-gravity head with a specialized channel groove for blade protection. “We insisted on the sharpest Gamakatsu® heavy wire flipping hook available. The premium silicone skirt is hand-tied and color-matched to the jighead and blade. And a double-wire trailer keeper locks soft plastics tight to the jighead. Even the line-tie is tricked-out — a high-grade Decoy® Egg Snap. Like I said, Ferrari,” Hite laughs.

The hottest combo in bassin’ today — a ChatterBait JackHammer and Z-Man RaZor ShadZ trailer.

Fresh off a Bass Pro Shops Central Open win on Ross Barnett Reservoir, Bassmaster Elite Series angler Stephen Browning was singing the bait’s praises. “I boated almost every bass on a pair of ChatterBait JackHammer bladed jigs,” he said. “I tied up a black/blue bait with a matching Z-Man DieZel MinnowZ during the darker morning hours, and followed it up with a solid white ChatterBait and white Razor ShadZ trailer in the afternoon. I felt the DieZel vibrated differently than the RaZor, and gave the bait more loft, which was key in dingier water.”

Browning also noted that the low-profile jighead on the JackHammer slid over shallow eelgrass and woodcover exceptionally well. “What’s great, too,” Browning noted, “is the bait’s double-keeper system, which holds ElaZtech softbaits tightly in place. Even when the bait picked up blades of grass, I could slap it on the water and clear it without having to re-rig the trailer. Huge time saver. I also felt like the blade gave off a slightly different, perhaps higher pitched sound than other baits. I had a lot of confidence in it.”

Not two weeks earlier, Chris Johnston wielded a white Z-Man / EverGreen ChatterBait JackHammer to win the FLW Tour event at Florida’s Harris Chain of Lakes. Interestingly, Johnston’s winning blade jig was as gift from his buddy, fellow FLW pro, Jeff Gustafson, who earned a 2nd place finish with a similar JackHammer vibrating jig. In total, five of the top-ten finishers also employed ChatterBait brand lures during the event, most of them retrieving the vibrating jig through patches of hydrilla.

Bassmaster Elite Series angler Stephen Browning wielded a pair of ChatterBaits to win the Bass Pro Shops Central Open.

For Browning the winning retrieve consisted of slow-rolling across 2- to 4-foot spawning flats, using occasional upticks in reel rotation to speed up the bait’s swimming cadence and vibration. “Ninety percent of my bass bit right after I turned the reel handle fast one time.” For Johnston and Gustafson, a ripping and popping retrieve activated the lure’s blade, and accounted for most of their strikes.

“The JackHammer definitely shines around vegetation and cover,” adds Hite. “But what’s amazing is that it’s just as deadly in clear water as it is in dark, dirty lakes, rivers and reservoirs. Work it along bottom or bulge it up near the surface.

“The new ¾-ounce size fills a critical gap in the ChatterBait spectrum. For working a bait down in deeper water, really thumping it around wood cover, the heavier ¾-ouncer is a valuable tool in my tackle box. My rule of thumb for fishing the bait is to speed it up or slow it down just enough to tick the vegetation or wood. It’s just an amazing, versatile bait.”

The pre-eminent vibrating jig available today, the ChatterBait JackHammer is the result of a comprehensive project between Z-Man Fishing and Japanese luremaker, EverGreen International, designed by Bassmaster Elite Series angler Brett Hite. Available in 3/8-, ½- and the new ¾-ounce size, the ChatterBait JackHammer features ten color-matched patterns, compatible with a variety of ElaZtech softbaits.

Bassmaster Classic Anglers Dealing With ‘Confused’ Bass This Week At Lake Hartwell

Bassmaster Elite Series pro Ott DeFoe will be among a full field of 52 anglers competing for the championship title in the 2018 GEICO Bassmaster Classic presented by DICK’S Sporting Goods March 16-18 in Greenville, S.C., with fishing competition on Lake Hartwell out of Anderson.

Bassmaster Classic Anglers Dealing With ‘Confused’ Bass This Week At Lake Hartwell

[print_link]

GREENVILLE, S.C. — There are a couple of reasons why Tennessee pro Ott DeFoe didn’t pre-fish for the 2018 GEICO Bassmaster Classic presented by DICK’S Sporting Goods.

For one thing, he knows himself too well.

When he visits a lake, he knows he doesn’t have the willpower to just ride around and look. He wants to fish — and he didn’t want to risk finding something good and messing it up months before the tournament started.

More than that, he knew big changes were in store for the lake.

“I knew Lake Hartwell was going to look a lot different by this week than it did back in the fall and the winter,” DeFoe said. “I just didn’t see any point in pre-practicing.”

The annual Super Bowl of Bass Fishing is scheduled for Friday, Saturday and Sunday, with takeoffs at 7:30 a.m. ET each day from Green Pond Landing and Event Center in Anderson, S.C., and daily weigh-ins scheduled for 3:15 p.m. at the Bon Secours Wellness Center in downtown Greenville. A first-place prize of $300,000 is at stake.

As DeFoe expected, the 56,000-acre face of Lake Hartwell has changed drastically since the fall. After dropping to almost 10 feet below full pool, the lake is nearly full now — and anglers who fished it during the lower pool say it’s a completely different animal today than it was then.

“It was 7 feet low in October when we were here for the B.A.S.S. Nation Championship,” said Luke Gritter, a Michigan angler who made the Classic by finishing second in the 2017 Academy Sports + Outdoors B.A.S.S. Nation Championship presented by Magellan Outdoors. “It’s a different lake now. The fish were on a herring bite then and schooling, and it’s too cold for that now.”

Caleb Sumrall, the Louisiana angler who edged Gritter for the B.A.S.S. Nation title on Hartwell in October, agreed.

“Right now, you’ve got a little bit of everything going on,” Sumrall said. “You can’t find a real pattern. The fish aren’t bunched up. It’s just one here and there.”

The lake went off-limits to competitors on Jan. 1 and only became available again last week, March 9-12. The anglers will get another official practice day Wednesday.

DeFoe said it’s hard to know what the fish will be doing when the fish don’t even seem to know themselves.

“The fish, in my opinion, are confused,” he said. “It got so warm, so quick — and it wasn’t like it was for just a day. They had a week of extremely warm weather here.

“Guys at home fishing Douglas and Cherokee were fishing 60-degree water, which shouldn’t ever happen in February. I’m sure it got that way here, too.”

DeFoe says that likely moved some fish into some shallower prespawn and spawning areas. But another blast of cold weather changed all of that.

“All of a sudden, now the bottom has fallen back out of it, and it’s more like it should be for this time of year,” he said. “But I think the fish, when it was warm, they just got so far along that it’s kind of made them act weird.

“They’re not where they should be.”

That strange setup, DeFoe said, may favor local anglers who know the lake well and understand how fish behave here during seasonal oddities.

“The guy who has lived here and knows all of the quirks of it could definitely have an advantage,” he said. “You want to say it’s anybody’s tournament. But really, when a place is not fishing good, that’s when you’ve got a local advantage.”

Several anglers in the 52-man field have won major events on Lake Hartwell in the past, including Donalds, S.C., pro Casey Ashley, who won the 2015 Classic on Hartwell and Lorena, Texas, angler Alton Jones, who won the 2008 Classic on the lake.

Ashley has also won an FLW Tour event on Hartwell — as have California pro Brent Ehrler and Florida pro John Cox.

Old Man Winter is just not letting go this year, after a nice warm up in February and early March, it has cooled back off.
March is known as the BIG FISH MONTH here in the Commonwealth, so be sure to check your line, rod and reel and get out there and land the fish of a lifetime.
BASS- The largemouth will start to make a move into the shallows all month long and will be willing to take a variety of reaction baits as they feed up in preparation for the spawn. If venturing uplake in the stained water, shallow crankbaits like the SPRO LITTLE JOHN 50 will draw strikes from hungry bass.
Dave’s Tournament Tackle Tiger Shad Spinnerbaits fished in the dormant/emering willow grass has been a proven tactic for many years. New for this year from Dave’s Tournament Tackle is the Blade Roller Spinnerbait, the round head will deflect better for you when fishing in wood cover and it also features hidden weigh technology (3/8 has a 1/4 profile).
Search baits like a Rat-L-Trap or Red Eye Shad has always been a favorite lure choice of mine. Fish these baits around the many rocky points that are adjacent to the channel.
Mid lake will have better water clarity, suspending jerkbaits fished on main lake points, rip rap banks, deep boat docks and bridge pilings are a great choice to have a chance at a BIG FAT BUCKET MOUTH!  As the water warms, you can get more aggressive with the cadence that you are fishing.
If fishing around bait fish, A-Rigs rigged with four inch swimbaits, like the BIG BITE SUICIDE SHAD will do the trick. A 1/2oz Blade Bait made by SG HEAVY METAL BAITS will catch them as well and the popular Damiki Vault. Also, a 1/4oz Scounger Head rigged with a soft jerkbait will catch them.
As the water warms into the 50’s and stays there, a soft jerkbait like the Zoom Super Fluke, Damiki Armor Shad, Deep Creek Lures Carolina Shad and the Double-D CC Twitchin’ Shad are all great choices. You can fish these in the emergent willow grass, around and under boat docks and around laydown trees. I rig them with a Gamakatsu EWG 4/0 hook on 12lb Izorline XXX Golden Green line.
CRAPPIE- The Crappie had started making a slight move towards their spawning grounds, however they were stopped by the cold weather and falling water temps. You can still catch them around bridge pilings in 10-15 feet of water. As the water warms back up, look for them to move towards the willow grass, boats docks and laydown trees. A two inch curly tail grub rigged on a 1/16oz jighead or small minnows rigged under a slip bobber with catch limits of the tasty panfish.
STRIPER- The LINESIDES are on the move uplake and will continue to move uplake all  month. Jerkbaits, four inch swimbaits, blade baits and spoons will all catch fish. There are still a number of birds on the lake diving on baitfish, these feathered fish locaters will help you put a few in the cooler.
By the end of the month, concentrate on the upper sections of the lake, above the 522 bridge on the North Anna arm and from the mouth of Terry’s Run all the way up to the 522 bridge on the Pamunky Arm.
