STURTEVANT, Wis., March 13, 2018 – BRP staff are saddened that long-standing Team Evinrude icon and extended family member, Guido Hibdon, passed away on March 10th, 2018. A native of Gravois Mills, Missouri, he is survived by his beloved wife Stella, son Dion, grandsons Payden, Lawson and Conner, and several other loving family members. Hibdon was in his 72nd year.

Referred to by many as “a legend in the bass fishing world”, Hibdon’s career highlights include: 1987 Bassmaster Classic Champion, 1996 Bassmaster Classic Champion, 2005 Forrest Wood Cup Champion, five B.A.S.S titles, and 1990 and 1991 Bassmaster Angler of the Year. He was also inducted into the Bass Fishing Hall of Fame in 2002. The year after Hibdon won the Bassmaster Classic for the second time, in 1997, his son Dion won the championship. This made them the only father/son duo to earn such an accomplishment. Dedicating 35 years of his professional life to the fishing industry, he was a member of Team Evinrude since the onset of his career.

“Our deepest condolences are extended to Guido’s family and friends,” said Krista Sparkes, vice president of sales – Evinrude, North America. “A true mentor to all of us involved in the fishing community and a highly respected Evinrude ambassador, Guido will be greatly missed.”

Arrangements will be organized through Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles, Missouri. The family has created a Life Tributes page to make it easy to share memories and view service details. http://www.kidwellgarber.com/obituaries/Guido-Hibdon/#!/Obituary

Places Big Baits in Precise Places

Coming to life at the 2018 GEICO Bassmaster Classic, St. Croix’s New Legend Tournament Bass Dock Sniper fills the void in the heavy lure in tight quarter’s situation

Park Falls, WI (March 13, 2018) – Every angler has their own arena. Some are known for their crankbait casting skills; some for their Carolina- or Texas-rigging competency; others, perhaps, a finesse prowess like no other. But if there’s one method for landing even more bass than ones go-to system may be able to produce, it’s fishing docks.

Dock fishing is a year-round means of catching bass with a multitude of techniques; with spring and fall seeing numbers of fish, while the winter and summer months it’s fewer but bigger ones. And dock fishing has helped countless tournament anglers place in the money, as they skip, flip and pitch an array of different baits into tight quarters.

But while there are several methods for catching bass from docks and other snag-infested structure that have been conjured up over the years, there hasn’t been a rod perfect for placing heavy offerings in precise places that can also hoof a hefty bucketmouth out from heavy cover.

With that thought in mind, the rodsmiths at St. Croix created the Legend Tournament Bass Dock Sniper (LBC70HF). But don’t let the name fool you; this rod is a multi-tool for getting baits in the bullseye in all sorts of situations.

“Dock fishing is a strong winning pattern on any lake,” says Brian Snowden, Bassmaster tournament pro whose career winnings are tickling the million-dollar mark. “But it takes a special rod to be able to make an accurate cast to any nook and cranny where a big bass might be hiding.

“St. Croix’s new Legend Tournament Dock Sniper has an excellent tip action that allows me to quietly place my lure where it needs to be, and its strong backbone gives me the ability to get a good hook set and then maneuver fish over and around cables and other obstacles that might interfere with landing any fish, let alone a big one.”

The Dock Sniper’s 7-foot length allows anglers to seamlessly skip lures long distances. Its heavy-power, fast-action blank is constructed of high-modulus/high-strain SCIV graphite with FRS. Combined with Integrated Poly Curve® (IPC®) mandrel technology and Advanced Reinforcing Technology™ (ART™), this USA built blank delivers unparalleled sensitivity and strength.

“Anyone who’s picked it up and deflected the tip of the Legend Tournament Bass Dock Sniper knew it possessed the perfect feel,” says Dan Johnston, National Accounts Manager for St. Croix Rods. “It’s a versatile rod that lets you present a variety of baits in all types of cover and can hit the spot in confined spaces. Heck, you can even tie up a spinnerbait and give it a long-distance cast.”

Designed for 14- to 25-pound test and 3/8- to 1 ½-ounce lures, the Dock Sniper joins the Legend Tournament Bass series, and comes complete with Fuji® K-Series Concept Tangle Free guides with Alconite® rings – ideal for braid, monofilament and fluorocarbon lines. A Fuji® PTS blank-touch reel seat and split-grip super-grade cork handle are light in weight and allows for superior sensitivity. Machined-aluminum wind check and trim pieces, as well Kigan hook-keeper, are enveloped with two coats of Flex-Coat slow cure finish.

Designed and built in the USA, the Legend Tournament Bass Dock Sniper carries a 15-year transferrable warranty backed by St. Croix Superstar Service. Retails for $290.

,Are the bass biting big baits? Are they holding tight to pylons or other super heavy structure? Plop your lure in the precise place with the Dock Sniper. Tap, tap… Set the hook and bring that big fish aboard.

Legend Tournament Bass Dock Sniper (LBC70HF) features:

  • Integrated Poly Curve® (IPC®) mandrel technology
  • Advanced Reinforcing Technology™ (ART™)
  • High-modulus/high-strain SCIV graphite with FRS for unparalleled strength and durability
  • Fuji® K-Series Concept tangle-free guides with Alconite rings, ideal for super braid, mono and fluorocarbon lines
  • Fuji® PTS blank-touch reel seat

Premium Seaguar fluorocarbons and braids connect anglers to winning bass

Line up for the Bassmaster Classic

Premium Seaguar fluorocarbons and braids connect anglers to winning bass

[print_link]

New York, NY (March 13, 2018) – One critical connection links the competitors at the 2018 GEICO Bassmaster Classic to their large-mouthed quarry as the event rolls into Greenville, South Carolina: their line. When nine Seaguar pros launch their boats into Lake Hartwell, they may cast hi-tech braided lines, or opt for premium 100% fluorocarbons, but their goals will all be the same: claim Classic victory and hoist a trophy skyward on Sunday.

Lake Hartwell is no stranger to the Bassmaster Classic. Indeed, this year’s event marks the third time in the past ten years that the 56,000-acre reservoir will become the epicenter of the bass fishing universe. Unlike the most recent event in 2015, a frigid February classic that featured boats frozen to trailers and an offshore bite, the 2018 Bassmaster Classic is almost certain to be warmer, with more water in the reservoir and the bite focused on shorelines and near-shore cover for prespawn largemouth. Nevertheless, notoriously fickle spring weather has Seaguar’s seasoned pros prepared for any angling contingency.

Much excitement surrounds the possibility of a Hartwell shallow water shootout, with roaming prespawn bass as the primary targets. Coverage techniques, like shallow crankbaits and spinnerbaits, augmented by pitching presentations around docks and flooded vegetation, will dominate along shorelines and in the reservoir’s creek arms.

Seaguar InvizX is a smooth casting, robust line with incredible feel, and is an excellent choice for shallow water power fishing. Specially designed to dominate in freshwater, Seaguar pros will spool up with 12 or 15-lb test InvizX as they cover water with extra-long casts and mobile presentations. Like all Seaguar’s 100% fluorocarbon lines, InvizX boasts exceptionally low visibility beneath the water’s surface, helping to trigger wary, early spring bass in Hartwell’s typically clear water.

When approaching specific targets with methodical flipping or pitching presentations, Seaguar’s Denny Brauer Signature Series Flippin’ Braid will be found on Classic competitors’ reels. Seaguar pro angler and 1998 Bassmaster Classic Champion Denny Brauer knows a thing or two about flipping for giant bass, and lent his expertise to the development of this premium braided line.

“I’ve never, EVER, had this line break. It’s a great line, and as a bonus, its jet-black color will get you more bites,” noted Brauer. Flippin’ Braid is constructed from eight ultra-thin strands in a tight, round-profile weave, and is exceptional at cutting through heavy cover. “Flippin’ and pitchin’ are about pulling big fish out of the nastiest vegetation you can find,” said Brauer. “You’re on a short line, and you need to feel the quick reaction strike and then literally horse the fish out of heavy cover. For these applications, Seaguar’s 65-pound Flippin’ Braid is just what the doctor ordered!”

Not all of Hartwell’s top weights will be extracted from the shallows. Indeed, with the 2015 Classic being won offshore, many competitors will opt to target staging areas to intercept oversized bass before they can reach shoreline-focused anglers.

Seaguar AbrazX, a 100% fluorocarbon with double the abrasion resistance of comparable lines, will be a critical element of deep water jig and crankbait applications. Seaguar pro angler Jordan Lee relied on AbrazX to carry him to his 2017 Bassmaster Classic championship, as he probed hard-bottom areas with deep diving cranks and football jigs. Lee noted, “when I was digging that crankbait down into the bottom cast after cast, it never once broke off.” When gearing up for the pivotal last day of the 2017 Classic, Lee spooled up every reel with 17-pound AbrazX because it is strong, abrasion resistant, and still thin enough to get long casts. “Seaguar AbrazX definitely boosts my confidence when I’m dragging baits on hard offshore cover because I get far fewer frays in my line,” Lee asserted.

Seaguar is well represented at the 2018 GEICO Bassmaster Classic, sending Keith Combs, Mark Daniels Jr., Mark Davis, James Elam, Jordan Lee, Matt Lee, Brandon Palaniuk, Cliff Pirch and Jesse Wiggins to the premier event in competitive bass fishing. With the Classic title on the line, look for each to rely on Seaguar as the single critical connection linking them to their finned quarry.

Just like our team of Bassmaster Classic competitors, Seaguar premium fluorocarbons and braided lines are Always The Best!

[print_link]

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Bass fishing fans who want to see their heroes in action will have more than 250 hours of video to watch in the new season. The 2018 programming schedule for the Bassmaster Classic and Bassmaster Elite Series released by ESPN this week includes 30 hours of television and 222 hours of streamed content during tournament competition.

Television airing on ESPN2 begins at 7 a.m. ET March 31 with the first of 10 hours of coverage of the GEICO Bassmaster Classic presented by DICK’S Sporting Goods, which is being held March 16-18 on Lake Hartwell, South Carolina. The Classic championship episode begins at 10 a.m. ET April 1.

Classic LIVE, the innovative live-stream, on-the-water coverage pioneered by JM Associates at the Greenville Classic in 2015, kicks off at 8 a.m. ET March 16, just after the first-round takeoff of the Classic. LIVE will be streamed for six hours per competition day on ESPN3 and the ESPN App, as well as Bassmaster.com.

As many as five high-definition cameras — the same ones that record The Bassmasters TV show for ESPN2 — are able to stream fishing action real-time through cellphone transmissions.

Cell coverage will be even stronger on Lake Hartwell this year than during the two previous Classics in 2008 and 2015, thanks to a 110-foot live-stream tower erected last week at Green Pond Landing and Event Center in Anderson, S.C., site of the daily takeoffs for the Classic.

In addition to video from competitors’ boats, LIVE will feature commentary from hosts Tommy Sanders, Mark Zona and Davy Hite, along with reports from Robbie Floyd and Dave Mercer, Classic and Elite Series emcee as well as veteran Elite anglers and guest anglers from the Classic Outdoors Expo presented by DICK’S Sporting Goods.

“It amazes even us how far LIVE has come in the few short years since we launched it in Greenville in 2015,” said Mike McKinnis, vice president of media content of JM Associates and producer of Bassmaster LIVE and The Bassmasters. “Viewership has grown dramatically every year since then. Including audience numbers from the ESPN App, LIVE programming from the 2017 Classic, the Elite Series and the Classic Bracket event had 2.9 million video views and generated 85 million minutes of viewing.

“LIVE is truly changing the way fishing fans follow the sport of professional bass fishing.”

The Bassmasters first aired in 1985 and is the longest-running television programming covering professional bass fishing. It has been aired on ESPN2 since 2000.

In addition to shows built around the Elite and Classic competition, three how-to-oriented “Winning Ways” programs will be aired on ESPN2, as will a special program on the Toyota Bassmaster Angler of the Year Championship to be held Sept. 20-23 on Chatuge Lake, Georgia.

ESPN will continue to air coverage of competition from the Carhartt Bassmaster College Series presented by Bass Pro Shops and the Mossy Oak Fishing Bassmaster High School tournaments presented by DICK’S Sporting Goods. Programs covering college and high school competition will air on ESPNU. Additionally, all Bassmaster Elite Series and Classic coverage will air on ESPN’s International networks and broadband players in the Caribbean and Oceania, reaching more than 40 countries outside the United States.

Shows will be re-aired beginning in July on the ESPN Classic channel. Following are dates and times of programs from B.A.S.S.’s 2018 schedule on ESPN. All times are Eastern and are subject to change. Check Bassmaster.com for up-to-date programming information.

When Do Bass Spawn? See The Nationwide Spawning Expectancy

 [print_link]

When do bass spawn? And why should you care? The bass spawn is one of the pillars of bass fishing. Understanding when bass will spawn in your area can help you key in on their patterns for months. Prespawn bass fishing is electric, one of the most fun times to be on the water all year long. Fishing during the spawn is its own world, pulling bass from beds or using the seasonal aggression to catch other predatory species. Post spawn bass fishing can signal the beginning of the dog days, where finding bites is a tougher task than the previous two phases of the bass spawn.

With the vast difference in weather from sea to shining sea, the schedule of when bass spawn varies for anglers in different states. The warmer temps in the south hit first, working their way north as temperatures decrease and you find yourself further from the equator. Let’s not get too scientific, though. We’ll just show you when you should roughly expect bass to spawn in your neck of the woods.

When Do Bass Spawn?

bass spawn

As you can see here, the early spawners are the furthest south, with most northern states not seeing spawn activity until the summer months. The south is heaven for those who love to fish the bass spawn. You’ll find anglers fishing prespawn tactics as early as Valentine’s Day some years!

What Is The Bass Spawn?

Now, to get a little more scientific and explain. What exactly is the bass spawn, and how does weather affect it? The bass spawn is when bass lay, fertilize, and hatch their eggs. The entire process can take as little as 3 weeks in some spots! Bass find a sturdy, hard bottomed area to build a nest to begin the spawn. From there, the eggs are fertilized and hatched. Once the minnows in the nest are self sufficient, everyone goes their own way and move into their body of water’s ecosystem. Simple enough!

But, why does the bass spawn happen in the south first? Basically, it comes from the end of winter’s lazy period. Once the water warms up and bass lose their lethargic state of being, they have a predetermined need to spawn. Winter ends, spring is here, and the bass wake up just like the anglers!

COSTA FLW SERIES READIES GRAND LAKE FOR SECOND SOUTHWESTERN EVENT OF SEASON

COSTA FLW SERIES READIES GRAND LAKE FOR SECOND SOUTHWESTERN EVENT OF SEASON

[print_link]

GROVE, Okla. (March 13, 2018) – More than 280 pros and co-anglers are set to compete next week, March 22-24, at the Costa FLW Series at Grand Lake presented by Ranger Boats. The tournament is the second of three regular-season events scheduled in the FLW Series Southwestern Division. Hosted by the City of Grove, the event will feature anglers competing for a top award of up to $85,000, including a brand new Ranger Z518C boat with a 200-horsepower Evinrude or Mercury outboard.

“The lake has been fishing great and I think that we’re going to see Grand Lake show its true colors in this tournament,” said FLW Tour rookie Sheldon Collings of Grove, who has three career top-10 finishes in the FLW Bass Fishing League (BFL) competition on Grand Lake. “It’s been taking 24 to 25 pounds to win one-day tournaments on the lake the past few weekends and the potential is there right now to weigh in a 30-pound limit.

“The key to this event will be adapting to the cold front that is supposed to be coming in,” Collings continued. “It’s warm right now and they’re saying that it could get up to 80 degrees this weekend. But, next week a cold front is coming through and we could be back down to 30 degrees. A guy is going to have to have a couple of different patterns and areas to deal with the weather.”

Collings said that he expects anglers to be catching fish both deep and shallow and that anglers would be able to catch fish “however they want to.”

“Guys are catching them good right now 20 to 25 deep on umbrella rigs and on Wiggle Warts and jerkbaits in 8 to 10 feet,” Collings said. “I think a lot of guys will catch them flipping jigs behind docks, as well, but the majority of fish will be caught on reaction baits.

“I think someone is going to come in the first day of the tournament and weigh in at least 25 pounds,” Collings went on to say. “They’ll back it up with another 18 to 20 pounds the next two days and I think the winner will need to have a weight in at least the mid- to high-60-pound range.”

Anglers will take off from Wolf Creek Park, located at 963 N. 16th St., in Grove, at 7:30 a.m. CDT each day of competition. Weigh-in will be held at Wolf Creek Park on Thursday and Friday beginning at 3:30 p.m. Saturday’s final weigh-in will be held at the Cabela’s in Rogers, Arkansas, located at 2300 Promenade Boulevard, and will begin at 4:30 p.m. All takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.

In Costa FLW Series regular-season competition, payouts are based on the number of participants competing in the event. At Grand Lake pros will fish for a top prize of $85,000, including a brand new Ranger Z518C boat with a 200-horsepower Evinrude or Mercury outboard if Ranger Cup qualified. Co-anglers will cast for a brand new Ranger Z175 boat with a 90-horsepower Evinrude or Mercury outboard, and $5,000 if Ranger Cup qualified.

The Costa FLW Series consists of five U.S. divisions – Central, Northern, Southeastern, Southwestern and Western – along with the International division. Each U.S. division consists of three regular-season tournaments with competitors vying for valuable points that could earn them the opportunity to compete in the season-ending Costa FLW Series Championship. The 2018 Costa FLW Series Championship is being held Nov. 1-3 on Lake Guntersville in Guntersville, Alabama, and is hosted by the Marshall County Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Todd Massey & Brandon Gray Win Cashion Fishing Rods Qualifier #2 March 10,2018 on Jordan Lake

CASHION FISHING RODS SPRING TEAM TOURNAMENT BASS TRAIL QUALIFIER #2
Saturday March 10th, 2018 ~  ~ Jordan Lake ~ ~ Farrington Point Wildlife Ramp

[print_link]

Another cold front!! However, it didn’t stop the 54 boats that arrived to fish hard for the 1st Place award in the Cashion Fishing Rods Spring Team Tournament Bass Trail Qualifier #2 at Jordan Lake. The weather was not too bad with winds very light for most of the day and up to 5 mph in the afternoon, the air temps ranged from 34 to 54 and the water level was right at 217. Surface water temps averaged 50 degrees depending where you were on the lake! The fish were on the banks in 2 to 6 foot of water but were picky on that baits and the speeds they were fish. Water needs to warm up a few degrees and the bite should be back on!!
