MINNEAPOLIS (Feb. 28, 2018) – Fishing League Worldwide (FLW), the world’s largest tournament-fishing organization, announced a sponsorship agreement with Abu Garcia and Berkley to feature fishing tackle, rods, reels and apparel at all FLW-sanctioned bass fishing tournaments in 2018. The deal reestablishes a partnership between the two outdoors-industry leaders, who also partnered in the 2000 to 2009 seasons. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“Abu Garcia and Berkley have an established, proven lineup of fishing products that FLW anglers and fans all over the world find extremely useful on the water,” said FLW President of Marketing Trish Blake. “We are proud to announce our re-alliance with Abu Garcia and Berkley, and are excited to continue showcasing these premier brands in creative and engaging ways to our loyal and passionate audience of anglers and outdoors enthusiasts.”
The agreement comes shortly after the recent announcement of the addition of 14 FLW Tour pros to the Abu Garcia and Berkley pro staff, including the reigning 2017 Forrest Wood Cup Champion Justin Atkins and the 2017 Angler of the Year Bryan Thrift.
“I grew up fishing with Abu Garcia and have used the brand throughout my career,” Atkins said. “Every Abu Garcia product is reliable and I know that I’m fishing with time-tested and durable products. I’m excited to also now partner with Berkley – their innovations, particularly in PowerBait MaxScent – can’t be beat.”
Abu Garcia and Berkley will receive premium exposure at all FLW tournaments, including the FLW stage and tournament trailers, banners and promotional booth space at select FLW Expos and events. Each brand will also act as the presenting sponsor for select Bass Pro Shops FLW High School Open and YETI FLW College Fishing tournaments.
“We are excited to once again be partnering with Fishing League Worldwide (FLW),” said Neil Eibeler, CEO for Pure Fishing. “FLW has an incredible following of anglers who are truly passionate about fishing. We’re proud to show our support for them, providing both the gear and the knowledge they need to succeed.”
Abu Garcia and Berkley products will also be prominently featured across all FLW-produced media, including FLWFishing.com, FLW’s social media channels and the Emmy-nominated “FLW” television show, which is broadcast to more than 564 million households worldwide. How To Catch Winter Jig Bass In Cold Weather – MTB – February 28,2017
Most bass fishing anglers are well versed on how effective jigs are at catching bass in just about any situation an angler can encounter. They emulate just about any forage species, work effectively at any depth, and get bit in the most pressured conditions.
They’re also one of the few baits that excels in the winter, when the water temps plummet and bass become extremely lethargic.
Here’s a quick rundown on where and how to catch bass on jigs through the winter months.
Where To Catch Winter Jig Bass
In the winter, bass are almost always going to hang around areas with a steep break line. Sometimes this break is on the bank, like a bluff wall or point, and other times it’s submerged, like a ditch, drain, or depression. Steep slopes allow bass to move up and down to feed without expending a lot of energy. Spend some time looking at the lake map, and identify areas with steep breaks, then focus on them once you’re on the water.
How To Catch Winter Jig Bass
Think S-L-O-W when fishing a jig in the winter. In super cold water, bass are extremely lethargic, so it takes a long time for them to chase down and bite a jig. If you move too fast, you’ll actually move your bait out of their strike zone before they even have a chance to bite. Instead, focus on “feeling” the bottom – it’ll cause you to slow down. Make a cast, let it hit bottom, and keep your rod tip high while slowly inching your jig along the bottom. Sometimes casts can take a minute or more. Pay close attention to the rod as well – bass jig bites often feel like mush in the winter, so set the hook if it feels even a little weird.
Rig Up For Winter Jig Bass
For winter jig fishing, you’re generally casting lighter jigs in the ¼ or 3/8 ounce sizes. For that reason, you can get away with a 7 foot medium heavy rod, paired with a high speed reel spooled with 12 to 15 pound fluorocarbon. Opt for jigs with finesse cut skirts, or even hair skirts – and trailers that have as little action as possible like chunks, tubes, or even pork.

Storm® 360GT Searchbait® is the go-to choice for anglers of all skill levels February 27,2018
[print_link]
“While this bait and jig head were initially released in one package, paired to be the perfect lure to catch everything that swims, it’s great that they’re available now on their own,” says Davy Hite, a Bassmaster Classic champion and seven-time Bassmaster tournament winner. “Often times, you’ll run out of one sooner than the other, and this just makes it easier to always have the right amount of what you need.”
Creating the ultimate illusion of natural baitfish movement, the 360GT body is a realistic-looking, phthalate-free, soft plastic featuring a toe-in boot-tail that elicits incredible fish-attracting action at any retrieve speed.
“The boot tail does a couple things,” Hite explains. “It gives the bait vibration, which the fish can feel in the water. And the slim tail going to the boot gives the bait another action — it moves side to side, just like a fish trying to propel through the water.”
Easy to rig, 360GT bodies feature a handy hook channel and well-marked exit hole. They are available in 3-1/2, 4-1/2 and 5-1/2 inch models. They come six per pack in a re-sealable bag containing an insert tray that protects each individual paddle tail.

Multi-species anglers can expect to catch bass, walleye and pike with 360GT Searchbaits. Ease of use will ensure that they become the go-to choices of anglers of all skill levels. A simple, steady retrieve gives them a fish-attracting swimming motion.
