The ramp at Fish Tales is finally thawed out and open and ready for your boat!
Our monthly Big Fish Contest for March is being postponed until April. This way everyone has a complete month to fish for the prizes. We are also extending into May this year as well!!!
We will be paying $100 or a Yearly Ramp Pass ($125 value) to the anglers that catch the LARGEST BASS, CRAPPIE & STRIPER each month!!!!!
Here are the rules…….
MUST LAUNCH AT APM/FISH TALES and either pay the $8 ramp fee or be a yearly ramp pass holder.
Fish can be caught on artificial or live bait.
If fishing with a guide or employee,
RAMP FEE MUST BE PAID BEFORE OUTING.
Tournament caught fish are eligible, however they must be weighed on the porch scales.
OLD MAN WINTER has finally loosened his grip on Central Virginia and the lake is thawing out!!!! At the current time, water temps are just above freezing throughout most of the lake. There is still some ICE the uplake region and in the backs of many creeks. For the next week or so, there may be
ICE CHUNKS breaking off and floating out to the main lake. PLEASE USE EXTREME CAUTION WHEN NAVIGATING THE LAKE!!
BASS- The largemouth will start to pull out of deep water winter areas later this month as the water temps start to rise. For now look for them in and close to deep water on main lake points and on main points in the major creeks like Pigeon, Sturgeon and Contrary.
Suspending Jerkbaits such as Lucky Craft Pointers, Duo Realis, Luck E Strike RC Stix, Rattling Rogues and the many many more that are available to you to catch LARGE NUMBERS & LARGE FISH this month!!! Let the fish decide just how you fish the bait. A good rule to start with is a TWITCH TWITCH PAUSE cadence, with the pause being 5 to 10 seconds. Some days you may have to slow down a lot more and on other days they may be very aggressive!
FISH TALES HAS ALL OF YOUR JERKBAIT NEEDS FROM LUCKY CRAFT, LUCK E STRIKE, SPRO, DUO REALIS, STRIKE KING, RATTLING ROGUE & STORM!!
WE ARE AWAITING OUR SHIPMENT OF THE NEW RAPALA SHADOW RAP IN BOTH DEPTH RANGES!!!
Another favorite way for me to catch fish is with a 1/4oz Longbill Luck E Strike Scrounger rigged with a DAMIKI ARMOR SHAD. Make long casts to points and deeper flats that have baitfish nearby and be sure to maintain bottom contact with the bait for the entire cast!
On bright sunny days, the fish may pull up to boat docks, lay down trees and shallow rocks in search of warmer water. On days like this a tight wiggle crankbait like a RAPALA SHAD RAP can produce numbers of fish for you.
Spy Baiting has taken the fishing industry like a hurricane in August! Duo Realis’ Spin Bait 80 and Spin Bait 90 has been catching fish since 2014 and Fish Tales is now fully stocked on both sizes and in every color available!!!! To see a great video of how to fish this this unique bait go to www.duo-inc.co.jp/bass/en/real
CRAPPIE- The Specks are still in deep water here on the MAIN SIDE at the current time. (From some of the reports that I am getting, if you are fortunate enough to have access to the HOT SIDE, fish can be caught from 5-10 feet of water.) Look for them to start making a move very soon. Bridge pilings, deep brush piles and deep rocks will hold fish all month long. Small minnows rigged on slip bobbers will be the best way to catch fish as long as they are deep.
Once they move up shallower, a 2″ Kalin Grub rigged on a 1/16oz jig head will put large amounts of these tasty vittles in the cooler for you! My top 3 colors are John Deere Green, Green Weenie and Wally World. A slow steady retrieve is the best, no need to hop or jerk the bait!
STRIPER- NO REPORT ON STRIPER AT THIS TIME!!!
