CATCH BASS IN FALL USING THESE DOCK TACTICS!

Bass love to hide out in shallow cover during fall. With no bushes near or in the water anymore bass and other fish must resort to making docks their prime habitat. These docks become a new hideout in the fall for bass. Largemouths tend to hang around the shallowest docks in the backs of pockets of the main rivers. Spotted bass can be found around the deeper docks out of the main channel. Knowing this makes fishing for bass in fall a whole lot easier. The ideal dock for largemouth would be a shallow boat house with styrofoam floats instead of the newer black encapsulated foam. The perfect dock is usually so shallow that its front end is floating over a debt of around five feet and the back end is grounded.

One Bait we love to use in these situations is our Fresh Scorpion because it offers a revolutionary new look to soft plastics. This bait not only appears natural to fish but gives them something to become curious about. Each Fresh Scorpion has a unique and exclusive 3-axis tail design that is engineered like no other soft plastic bait. Made from a high-grade non-salt plastic to provide superior life-like action that triggers MORE strikes! Scented for complete attraction!

Extended marinas or a community of docks with multiple boat slips sitting over a creek or river channels are great places to find spotted bass in the fall. Backs and shady sides of docks are prime targets for largemouth and the wind also plays a major role in determining where the hot spots are. When the wind is blowing on the front corners of the dock that makes those front corners better. The bass will always prefer the side with the most shade and most wind. Sunnier says will force the bass into these covered areas. On cloudy days there may be some fish around the dock but definitely won’t be a hot spot. On these types of days, you’ll want to switch up your strategy and look more for clear water rather than darker-colored water. In darker waters on cloudy days, bass tend to be less aggressive and don’t bite as much.

Using a stick-styled worm is the most tried and true ways to catch fish. We have a wide variety of 5-inch Fresh Worms to choose from, but we’ve recently released new 6-inch Worms that catch some trophies. Charmeleon, Rainbow TRT, Bone, Chocolate Mint, and Fire TGR are all available in 5 and 6-inch. The high-grade non-salt plastic they’re made from provides positive buoyancy and it even floats underwater! Handmade in the USA and are scented for complete and total attraction!

The best colors to use this time of the year are Black & Blue as well as Green Pumpkin to appear more natural to fish. Baits around this time of the year will lack a crucial vitamin in their diet due to the weather and this causes them to turn a green/ blue color. When other baits aren’t working a worm is always the last resort and go-to for every angler. When reeling fast in fall is also pretty important. You never want to give the fish a really good look at what they’re biting. To cover the majority of the water it’s best to cast one down the side, along the front face of the dock, and down the next side of the dock. Cover more water and you’ll get more bites!

We have a wide variety of terminal tackle to choose from. Our favorites for worms are always the Block Head Jig, Shakey Ultrahead, and Mosquito Hooks. The Block Head Jig is on sale and is perfect for ned rigging with its mushroom-style head that matches seamlessly to a wide variety of soft plastic worms and other small baits. The Shakey Ultrahead can permanently secure baits by inserting the pin in the center and screwing the twist lock coil spring for perfect rigging every time! Mosquito Hooks work for drop-shotting and are designed to accommodate a wide range of soft plastics. With the scorpion, we like to use the Stand-Up Jig because it will actually sit the scorpion up-right in a defensive stance.
