May was a busy month for the anglers who fish the Bass Cast Kayak Bass Series. We kicked off the month with a month-long tournament virtual tournament and then inserted a two-day team tournament on May 20 & 21.
This was the first Team Challenge that we have ever had, and, while we only had six teams, the feedback was good and the anglers seemed to enjoy getting to fish with new people. Our winning team of Adam Flint and Lee Richman had 5.5″ over the second place team of Troy Wines and Jessee Miller. However, Wines caught the biggest fish of the two days with a 20″ smallmouth. While Richman caught 30.75″ on Saturday, the five best fish making up the 91.25″ that won the tournament for the team all came from Flint.
Our month-long tournament turned out to be one for the record books for our winner, Steve Beck. Beck, who is only in his second season of tournament fishing, caught an astonishing 118.75″ – his personal best and the most length ever recorded in a Bass Cast Kayak tournament. He also snagged the biggest bass of his life (and the tournament) at 24.75″. Only 7.5″ behind Beck was Casey Reed, who came in second.
