Missile lands at Cabela’s

Missile Baits, the soft-plastic bait company founded by Bassmaster Elite Series pro John Crews, will now be available through Cabela’s website and will be available in 17 of Cabela’s retail locations in early 2013.

According to Crews, the store will initially carry three Missile products – the D-Bomb, the Missile Craw and the Tomahawk 8.75.

“Cabela’s, a company so rich in history, having our baits in their outstanding stores is a huge step for Missile Baits,” he said. “They started small just like we are. We are honored to be doing business with them. We really are looking forward to this relationship.”

EverStart Series – Championship Ouachita River – Final Day

Mr. EverStart” wins his fifth EverStart event, second championship
04.Nov.2012 by Rob Newell

MONROE, La. – It’s official: Koby Kreiger of Okeechobee, Fla., is now Koby “Mr. EverStart” Kreiger.

Today Kreiger won the fifth EverStart tournament of his career and his second EverStart Championship. He now holds the record for most EverStart wins in FLW Outdoors history.

Kreiger’s first EverStart Championship win came in 2002 on Lake Martin in Alabama. And how fitting is it for “Mr. EverStart” to win the final EverStart Championship, as it will not be held in 2013.

“This means a lot to me,” said an emotional Kreiger after accepting the trophy. “There is a lot of work that goes into fishing these events. When I won my first Championship in 2002, I had an undeniable feeling during practice that I was going to win that tournament. I have not had that feeling again in a long time. And on the third day of practice here, I had that feeling again. And it felt just like it did in 2002. It just comes over you…its kind of unexplainable, really.”Koby Kreiger seals his fifth EverStart win with a final-day catch of 9 pounds, 5 ounces.

Kreiger relishes his Mr. EverStart title even more as he has always been a big participant and strong supporter of the EverStart Series. Even with a full FLW Tour schedule, Kreiger always finds time for the EverStart events and thoroughly enjoys them.

“The EverStarts are important to me,” Kreiger said. “It’s where I cut my teeth in professional fishing and found early success. It’s a great place for people to discover tournament fishing – a true gateway to the sport. So to be kind of a leader in this Series is special to me. I like to see the new guys come into the sport. I enjoy helping them and seeing them succeed. There’s no doubt that the EverStart Series is critical to the growth of this sport, so to win this means more than most can imagine.”

Another reason Kreiger enjoys EverStart competition is because it starts in the spring and ends in the fall, complimenting his fishing strengths.

“There are two things I like to do – fish in the spring when the fish are first moving up and fish in the fall when they get around bait,” the RMC Boatworks pro explained. “Admittedly, I’m not that great in the summer events. But when the bait starts balling up in the fall and the bass follow those bait schools – I love it. It’s how I won my first Championship and it’s how I won this one.”

EverStart Series – Championship Ouachita River – Day 2

Florida pro rides the river for EverStart Championship lead

02.Nov.2012 by Rob Newell

MONROE, La. – After day two of the EverStart Championship on the Ouachita River a clearer picture is starting to develop of just how this expansive waterway is fishing right now.

For starters, the stumpy backwater plan has pretty much fizzled. Those hoping to ride “tin-cans” to victory lane have beat the area known as “aluminum alley” to death.

The two main arteries, the Ouachita River itself and the D’Arbonne Creek that flows through the D’Arbonne NWR have become the primary fish producers for the top contenders on the leader board.

Though there is negligible current flow in these tributaries, the top pros are finding ways to make the fish bite in places where current normally is present.

Another interesting development was a 14-pound, 7-ounce limit – by far the biggest of the tournament – weighed in by pro Brandon Medlock who caught just one bass yesterday and rocketed into 14th place today.

Koby Kreiger of Okeechobee, Fla., who was in second yesterday, jumped into the lead thanks to a 9-pound, 2-ounce limit today which puts him at 21 pounds, 7 ounces total.

Kreiger is no stranger to EverStart competition. He has four EverStart wins to his credit, including a previous EverStart Championship.

“For some reason I tend to do better in these tough tournaments where 7 or 8 pounds a day is something to write home about,” Kreiger said. “I had a feeling this tournament would end up that way, despite all the stories I heard about big limits, so I just planned on fishing for 9 or 10 pounds a day.”

Kreiger has tapped the main Ouachita River for his catch. And while he has a specific type of cover he is looking for, his bait selection changes by the hour.

“I’m fishing about 50 spots a day, but that includes the places I am revisiting during the day,” the RMC Boatworks pro said. “It’s not really junk fishing. I have specific places I’m fishing, but my bait selection is all over the place. It seems like each time I tie on something new, I get a bite or two on it immediately, then it fades away and I have to go to something else. I think these fish need to see something different each time I revisit a spot so I’m rotating through a lot of lure.”
