Lake Anna Lake Report for October 2013

Date:

NABC ChrisChris Craft caught this six pounder  yesterday shallow

Summer has finally come to a close, temperatures are dropping and the fishing is getting hot!!!  Start looking for the fish to start moving back into the major creeks around the lake.  The spinner bait bite is really taking off and you can cover a lot of water. Dress your spinner baits up with a SWIM N MINNOW from North Anna Bait Co. and hold on!!!!!!!!

North Anna Bait Company is located right here at Lake Anna. They make HIGH QUALITY PLASTIC BAITS with the angler in mind. Right now you can get yours at Fish Tales located at Anna Point Marina or you can order them online at www.NorthAnnaBaitCo.com

On October 19 the Fish for the Cure Tournament Trail will be hosting their last tournament of 2013 at Anna Point Marina. The tournament times are from 7am-3pm. The entry fee is $80 per boat with an 80% pay back. 20% of the entry goes to the Susan G. Komen- Breast Cancer Foundation.  There is also an optional $20 side pot that will pay back 100% and will pay 2 places. There will also be raffle’s for other prizes to try and raise money for a great cause, so come on out!!!!!!!!!!

On November 3, Sturgeon Creek Marina will be hosting the 7th annual Lake Anna Cup. For more details call 540-840-6772 or email lkalife@earthlink.net The entry fee for qualified teams is $70 or there is an at large entry of $80, entry fee the day of the tournament is $85.

Over at Fish Tales they are reducing the 2013 Lew’s model reels to unreal prices in order to get the 2014 models in. They will be marked up only slightly above cost and there will be NO ADDITIONAL DISCOUNT on them.

This sale will be for in stock 2013 model reels only. Just as an example……….The Tounament Pro Speed Spool is normally $199.99——They are on sale for $142.99!!!!!!!!!! That is a savings of $57.00!!!!

BASS– The Green Backs are really making a move into the backs of major creeks at this time. They are chasing baitfish and are willing to take a variety of baits. I like covering water with fast moving baits like Rat L Traps, Tiger Shad Spinnerbaits, shallow crank baits, soft jerk baits like the NABC CC MINNOW, top water baits like the Pay Check Baits Repo Man & Late Payment and Damiki MTB Noisy Buzz Baits. If you go down lake you can find them schooling up on Thread Fin shad. Pop R’s and Scrounger’s rigged with Tiny Flukes will work great for these schooling fish.In the North Anna arm, the bass are getting back in the willow grass with the lake being at full pool for the first time in many years for the fall fishing. Tiger Shads, Traps and Jigs worked in and around the willow grass will produce fish all month. The NABC FLIPPN BC Texas Rigged or as a jig trailer is one of my favorite ways to fish the willow grass. Top water baits will work as well early and late in the day fished right along the edge of the grass.Over on the Pamunkey side, I really like fishing boats docks in the fall. ARSON Jigs www.arsonjigs.com tipped with the NABC FLIPPN BC are my choice. Chart/Blue crank baits, Rhino Tuff 1.5 & 2.5 squarebill crankbaits in the Crafty Black Crappie pattern will work around boat docks that have crappie under them.  Tiger Shad Spinner Baits in either PURPLE TIGER with a PURPLE HAZE SWIM N MINNOW or a BLUE BACK HERRING and SEXY BLUE BACK HERRING dressed with a BLUE HAZE or BLUE CRYSTAL SWIM N MINNOW as the trailer.

CRAPPIE– The Specks have started their fall migration to the shallow water up lake. Boat docks, rock piles, beaver huts and grass will start holding lots of fish. Fish slip bobbers with small minnows or my favorite way to catch them is to skip 2″ Kalin curly tail grubs rigged on a 1/16oz jig head. For skipping docks I use a NABC Sickle Hook with a screwlock keeper on it, these 1/16oz jig heads can ONLY be found at FISH TALES. My favorite colors are John Deere Green and Green Weenie.
STRIPER– The heartiest Lake Anna fish is moving towards the up lake region this month. The Splits area has been the HOT ZONE here lately. First thing of a morning look for some early birds to be working bait fish with large schools of striper under them. If these fish are swirling, cast Broken Back Red Fins to them. If they are not visible, cast NABC SWIM N MINNOW rigged on a Dave’s Tournament Tackle 1/4oz XL JIG HEAD or jig Tooth Ache spoons. The DAMIKI VAULT has been producing lots of fish, this high end blade bait catched fish when other blade baits will not. Both are very productive way of putting fish in the ice box.Towards the end of the month, look for fish to be up lake in the
Duck N Hole/Gold Mine area of North Anna and from the S turns all the was to Little Florida in the Pamunkey.Lake Level- FULL POOLWater Temps
