The ICE is finally gone from the mid lake area and some anglers are starting to venture out. Mid lake was iced over for about a week at the end of January. This only means one thing, the baitfish started to die off.
We have two more outdoor shows to attend this month.
We hope to see you there!!!
OCHS Anglers Show
Orange High School
Western Va Sport Show
BASS- This is definitely FULL BLOWN WINTER FISHING!!
You will find active largemouth from the 208 bridge
down lake all the way to the DIKE 3 area. The jerkbait
bite will be one of the best this year due to the ice and
“BAIT KILL” look for them to really move up shallow
on bright sunny days. Vertical jigging Tooth Ache Spoons
will also get you some bites if you locate a school of fish
suspended up off of the bottom. Dragging a Jig & Pig
combination can produce a fish of a lifetime for you.
The key to this time of year is SLOWING WAY DOWN!
CRAPPIE- The best places to catch the crappie right now are
going to be the bridge pilings. Small minnows on a
jig head will work best. You will find them holding
tight to the pilings in 12-30 feet of water.
STRIPER- There are active striper in the DIKE 3 area of the
lake feeding on Shad and Herring. 4″ swim baits
like the North Anna Bait Co Swim N Minnow
rigged on a 1/4oz jig head will produce results
for you. Jerkbaits will also catch them. After the
feed, look for them to be suspended over deep
water and drop Toothache Spoons and Damiki
Vaults to them!!!!
LAKE LEVEL- FULL POOL
UP LAKE- FROZEN
MID LAKE- 35-38
DIKE 3- 45
