Toler Wins on Lake Norman

Athens, Al –  Kevin Toler of Statesville, NC won the American Fishing Tour division 14 tournament on Lake Norman in Mooresville, NC with five fish weighing 13.31 pounds held on 03/31/2018.

It was another cool start on Lake Norman with temperatures in the upper 30’s and winds out of the NNE at 5 to 10 mph, shifting to SW at 5mph about mid day.  A field of 27 anglers turned out to fish, and face tough post frontal conditions.  The anglers enjoyed sunny skies throughout the day, with temperatures topping out in the mid 60’s.  Water conditions varied throughout the lake with stained water from upper lake to mid lake, and gin clear conditions on the south end of the lake. Water temps varied from the low 50’s to low 60’s depending on where you were on the lake.

Despite tough conditions, Kevin Toler of Statesville, NC was able to put together a winning strategy. He reported starting his morning cranking and throwing a spinnerbait up the river in stained water.  He was able to bag a respectable limit by mid day, and move south to the mid lake area where he was able to upgrade his catch by throwing a jig and a wacky rigged senko around piers. Kevin earned himself $660.00 for his efforts, and valuable points towards an invite to the National Championship on Lake Hartwell in October of this year.
