April 22, 2017 – Jasper, Ala. – Lewis Smith Lake always seems to present a challenge to anglers in the state of Alabama.  Save for those who call the surrounding areas home, Smith Lake is a departure from the usual shallow, dirty water fishing styles that dominate the state.

Since the inception of the Alabama Bass Trail, one of the teams that seemed to always be sniffing a home lake win were the Wiggins brothers; however, that result seemed to be just slightly out of reach.

Not this time.

Despite the fact that Jesse Wiggins had graduated to the upper echelon of bass fishing by qualifying for The Bassmaster Elite Series, Jordan, along with his partner Wesley Sams climbed the final rung of the ladder and claimed the title of Alabama Bass Trail Champions at the 2017 ABT stop at Smith Lake.

Wiggins said that the win resonated through the family.  “My brother has already been texting me from his sponsor obligations; he’s been watching on his phone,” said Wiggins.  “He’s really happy that we were able to pull this off today.”

It almost didn’t happen.  If it wasn’t for a late decision to make a 20 minute run, the pair may have fallen short.  We had about 16 pounds, and felt like we needed one more fish,” they reported.  “We made a run from the back of Rock Creek to Crooked Creek and caught a 3-pound, 3-ounce spotted bass at 3:20 that culled a 2-6, and that was the one that put us over the top.”

The pair reported throwing homemade 1/4-ounce Shaky Heads tipped with a green pumpkin finesse worm on spinning gear and 8-pound-test fluorocarbon line.  They threw them in Rock Creek, White Oak and Crooked Creek.  “We covered a ton of water today, and we caught fish most of the day,” they said.  “All of the fish we caught were on those Shaky Heads from the bank to 10 feet of water.  We’re really pleased with the way things turned out, it feels really good.”  The pair earned $10,000 for their victory.

As much as the winner’s story is remarkable, the runner ups’ may be just as painful. The team of Damien Willis and Mark Steward had an impressive tournament, finishing in second place with 16.53 pounds – it marks the team’s third runner up finish in Alabama Bass Trail competition.  “We’ll get over the hump one of these days and close the door on one of these things,” they reported.  “We’re happy to get a lot of points towards qualifying, but to finish second again is a little frustrating.”

The pair caught most of their fish on Xcite Baits X-Lock heads and and Slim-X worms in green pumpkin and Plumkin colors.  “We caught a healthy limit on the Xcite worms, and were able to cull a couple on other bats,” they said.  “Our big fish [a 5.45-pound largemouth] came swimming by the boat, we saw it and threw a wake bait in front of it, and she bit it; we thought it might be our time, but we got beaten by some really good anglers; we did everything we could do.”  They earned a total of $6,000 for their day’s effort; which includes the ABT payout and a $1,000 Wedowee Marine bonus for being the highest finishing team who purchased their Phoenix Boat from the ABT sponsor.

Bill Mayo and Walt Roberts finished third for the event by bringing a 16.17-pound mixed bag limit of spotted and largemouth to the scales; they earned $4,000 for their efforts.  Caleb Smith and Clint Hutcherson finished fourth with 16.03 pounds and earned $3,000 and Tyler Stewart and Will Grisham rounded out the top five with 15.92-pundes, good for a $2,000 payday.

The team of Jason Berrong and Chris Pointer weighed in the heaviest bass of the tournament.  Their 6.08-pound largemouth anchored their 12.57-pound limit which landed them in 37th place for the event.  Their payday, with payout and the $500 Big Bass bonus earned them a total of $1,000.

OHIO’S PRVONOZAC WINS COSTA FLW SERIES SOUTHWESTERN DIVISION EVENT ON GRAND LAKE PRESENTED BY RANGER BOATS

Ohio Angler Tops Pro Field, Wins $42,400 and New Ranger Boat

[print_link]

GROVE, Okla. (April 22, 2017) – Pro Nick Prvonozac of Warren, Ohio, won the Costa FLW Series Southwestern Division tournament on Grand Lake presented by Ranger Boats Saturday after weighing a five-bass limit totaling 16 pounds, 10 ounces. Prvonozac’s two-day total of 10 bass weighing 36 pounds, 6 ounces was enough to earn him $42,400 and a new Ranger Z518C boat with a 200-horsepower Evinrude outboard.

“I feel great right now – it’s unbelievable,” said Prvonozac, who earned his third career-win in FLW competition, first in the Costa FLW Series. “Over the past few years I’ve been able to compete on this lake and get a good feel for it. That knowledge really helped in this event. I’ve made some mistakes before that I was able to correct this time around.”

Prvonozac said he spent his tournament working through a variety of areas stretching from the Shangri-La Resort to down near the dam. On Day One he said he split his time between sight-fishing bass on beds and targeting larger females in nearby areas that were staging to spawn.

“On Day One I caught two off of the beds with a Yum Vibra King Tube,” said Prvonozac. “The females were more off to the sides of the bedding areas. I hit a lot of 45-degree banks along secondary points and threw a Smithwick Suspending Rattlin’ Rogue jerkbait to catch one. I also caught one from a dock near bedding areas with a Booyah Bankroll Jig and a Yum Chunk trailer.”

Day Two of the three-day tournament was canceled due to severe thunderstorms and lightning in the Grove area. With the sudden influx of rain, Prvonozac said he was forced to make some adjustments heading into the final day of competition.

“I wanted to sight-fish today but the lake rose by a foot and a half so I couldn’t see them on the beds,” said Prvonozac. “I decided to make a run to a creek by the dam to target some fish that I had saved. I caught three good ones using the tube in two different areas with secondary points.”

Prvonozac said he flipped a bush with the Booyah jig for another keeper before making his way back to check-in.

“I went to my last area near Shangri-La and ended up finding one that looked good,” said Prvonozac. “I threw the Rogue and caught him out of some flooded bushes. It was my last fish, and it culled.”

Cox Claims Victory At Southern Open On Chickamauga Lake

[print_link]

EAST RIDGE, Tenn. — John Cox is one of the more laid-back professional anglers you’ll find. But from the start of the Bass Pro Shops Bassmaster Southern Open No. 2, he was confused.

He was perplexed by Chickamauga Lake and the way fishing conditions seemingly changed on him from hour to hour. He ran countless miles to find clean water, and fought for quality catches as his bites were infrequent each day. He got so worked up at times that he stopped for regular breaks to regroup and regain focus.

The hand wringing may have been tough for him on the water, but it all proved worthwhile on Saturday during the final weigh-in at the Bass Pro Shops location just outside of Chattanooga. Cox finished with a three-day total of 68 pounds, 3 ounces.

Cox, who hails from Debary, Fla., locked up a berth in the 2018 GEICO Bassmaster Classic presented by DICK’S Sporting Goods with the victory. He also won more than $8,000 in cash, as well as a Triton 19 TrX and Mercury 200 Pro XS boat/motor package worth $40,000.

It was the 31-year old pro’s first Bassmaster Open win after nearly a dozen years of fishing the events.

“I’ve tried so long to win one of these Opens; it seems like forever,” Cox said. “I started fishing the Opens when I was 19. It’s where I started, really; so this definitely is a special thing for me.”

Cox was one of the few anglers who exclusively sight fished throughout the second Southern Open of the season, though it was an effective technique for several of the tournament’s top finishers. He put himself in contention for the open championship with a 22-6 limit on Thursday, followed by a 25-7 bag on Friday.

His two-day total of 47-13 gave him more than a 3-pound lead heading into Saturday’s action, and his 20-6 limit on Saturday was heavy enough to lock up the win.

His Saturday haul was the second-heaviest limit of the day.

“There wasn’t actually a real window when I would catch them, but they would start biting when it warmed up,” he said. “Then they would back off when (it would get cloudy or rainy as it did throughout the tournament). So, it was really hard to catch them.”

Cox was fishing in extremely shallow water; less than a foot at times. He caught the majority of his fish on a 7 1/2 foot MHX 873 rod with 15-pound fluorocarbon line and a Senko worm attached. He pitched a jig from time to time, as well, to try and locate the bedding bass he sought.

“In the beginning of the week, the (bass) that stayed on the banks; their backs were out of the water,” Cox said. “So it was really shallow. As the water came up a couple feet, I just went back to the spots where I saw fish with their backs out of the water. I couldn’t see anything deeper.”

The heavy bag of the day came from Michael Neal, who hails from Dayton, Tenn., and was the hometown favorite. Neal weighed a five-bass limit on Saturday that weighed 24-6 and gave him a three-day total of 65-6. As impressive of a week as it was, it still wasn’t enough to catch Cox.

“I wish I had yesterday to do over again,” said Neal, who spent the tournament fishing Chickamauga Lake’s offshore ledges for postspawn transitioning bass. “I ran past an area where I caught all my biggest fish yesterday, and all of them today. That’s the only thing I would do over.”

Coincidentally, Cox’s win was the second time in recent history that he topped Neal on a Tennessee River fishery. Cox won the FLW Tour Championship on Wheeler Lake last August, and Neal placed second there, as well.

Next year’s Bassmaster Classic will be held on Lake Hartwell in Greenville, S.C., and that’s a fishery where Cox has won before. When he heard that the 2018 Classic would be held on Hartwell, he was especially eager to win a Bassmaster Open this year to punch his ticket to next year’s big event.

“My worst finishes have been on the Tennessee River and so have my best finishes,” Cox said. “So to win this, and get into a Classic is just unreal. If I was going to pick a Classic to fish, I would want it to be on Hartwell.”

The field of 390 pro and co-anglers was cut to the Top 12 in each division for Saturday’s competition. The remainder of the Top 12 on the pro side were: third, Hunter Shryock, 62-6; fourth, Shaw Grigsby, 61-0; fifth, Ish Monroe, 59-6; sixth, Bill Weidler, 52-12; seventh, Wayne Hauser Jr., 52-0; eighth, Brandon Lester, 51-4; ninth, Wes Logan, 49-6; 10th, Josh Douglas, 47-14; 11th, Justin Lucas, 45-2; and 12th, Sam George, 41-15.

Josh Jackson of Cobden, Ill., was the top co-angler in the second Southern Open of the season. He caught a three-bass limit each day of the tournament and finished with a three-day total weight of 32-9. Jackson won a Triton 179 TrX and Mercury 115 ELPTR Four Stroke boat/motor package with the victory.

The Top 40 anglers in each division earned a check for their finish, and the Top 12 pros and co-anglers fished on Saturday.

The Phoenix Boats Big Bass Award of $750 on the boater side went to Darrell Davis of Dover, Fla., with an 11-5 bass. In the nonboater division, Zach Clark of Newnan, Ga., received the Phoenix Boats Big Bass award of $250 with a 9-8 bass.

Cox also received the Livingston Lures Leader Award of $250 for being the Day 2 leader in the pro division. Clark received the Livingston Lures Leader Award of $250 in merchandise for being the Day 2 leader in the co-angler division.

Ish Monroe of Hughson, Calif., earned the Power-Pole Captain’s Cash Award of $500 for being the highest-placing angler who is registered and eligible and uses a client-approved product on his boat.

The Rhea County (Tenn.) Economic Development and Tourism Council hosted the Bass Pro Shops Southern Open No. 2. Anglers from 27 different states and countries competed.

Chico State Claims College Regional Win At Shasta

REDDING, Calif. — Today, the Chico State team of Tyler Firebaugh and Chad Sweitzer won the Carhartt Bassmaster College Series Western Regional presented by Bass Pro Shops. Their five-bass limit of 10 pounds, 14 ounces, brought their three-day total to 36-5.

Firebaugh and Sweitzer’s final limit came on a day when the fishing was slower for the field of 16 college teams than it had been the previous two days. Their final-round performance proved that the astonishing leap they made Thursday from last to first place was no fluke.

“We were catching good fish in practice when it was sunny,” said Sweitzer.

Their most productive tactic in practice was casting soft plastic Senko worms to flooded trees. However, the first day of the tournament was cloudy and their Senko bite did not produce as well as it had in practice.

“Since we were in last place the first day, we figured our only chance to win was to go for broke,” Sweitzer said.

Going for broke meant starting their second day of competition casting big, jointed, hard-plastic swimbaits to coax one of Shasta’s trophy spotted bass to bite. Sweitzer has caught spotted bass in excess of 8 pounds on other lakes with a swimbait, so this wasn’t new to him.

About 90 minutes after takeoff on Thursday, something resembling a submarine swam up and engulfed Sweitzer’s swimbait.

“He kept screaming at me that he had hooked the world-record spotted bass,” Firebaugh said.

When the rotund bass was safely netted and in the boat, they found that Sweitzer hadn’t been far off. The bass weighed 9-10 later at the weigh-in, roughly 1 pound shy of the world record. The enormous bass brought Firebaugh and Sweitzer’s second-day, five-bass limit to 18-0, which was the heaviest of the tournament.

The trophy spotted bass was the only fish the pair caught on a swimbait during the entire event.

With sunny, warm weather on the third day, the Senko pattern Firebaugh and Sweitzer had found in practice worked well again. It produced better quality bass today then the other college teams could muster.

By winning the tournament, Firebaugh and Sweitzer earned $4,500 for the Chico State bass fishing team. They also received a $1,500 first prize, plus the $500 Big Bass Award for catching the heaviest bass of the tournament. Add to this the Nitro Big Bag $250 gift card for the heaviest limit of the tournament.

Even more important, Firebaugh and Sweitzer earned a berth into the Carhartt Bassmaster College Series National Championship presented by Bass Pro Shops, which will be held later this summer.

The second place team, from the University of Oregon, also qualified for the Bassmaster College National Championship. That team consisted of one person, Jacob Wall, who fished alone on all three days. Wall won the Bassmaster College Series Western Regional last year at Lake Mead, Nevada.

Advancing to the Bassmaster College Series National Championship puts Wall, Firebaugh and Sweitzer one step closer to the dream of qualifying for the Bassmaster Classic. The eventual College Series Classic Bracket champion receives an invitation to the 2018 GEICO Bassmaster Classic presented by DICK’S Sporting Goods.

Nick Wood Takes Individual Title In B.A.S.S. Nation Regional On Shasta

Nick Wood Takes Individual Title In B.A.S.S. Nation Regional On Shasta

[print_link]

REDDING, Calif. — Building contractor Nick Wood of Yreka, Calif., lead the Academy Sports + Outdoors B.A.S.S. Nation Western Regional presented by Magellan at Lake Shasta, California, from start to finish. A day after Wood helped the California B.A.S.S. Nation team claim a victory, he earned the individual title for himself with a three-day total of 37 pounds, 1 ounce.

Because Wood is a local angler who knows Lake Shasta well, it comes as no surprise that he won the tournament. Wood has won previous tournaments at Shasta with five-fish limits of spotted bass that weighed 30 pounds. He has also caught spotted bass at Shasta in the 9-pound class.

Wood’s primary lure for sacking trophy spotted bass is an 8-inch Huddleston swimbait in the “hold over” color. However, all but one of Shasta’s monster spots succumbed to Wood’s big swimbait during the tournament. That bass was the 6-9 bass that anchored Wood’s first-day limit of 13-14. He resorted to a 4-inch Keitech swimbait on a 1/8-ounce darter head jig to finish his first-day limit.

The poor response Shasta’s magnum spotted bass gave to the Huddleston swimbait Wednesday prompted Wood to fish more conservatively on Thursday. He dropped down to a 7-inch Osprey swimbait. The result was a 13-11 limit that gave him a nearly 4-pound lead on the field going into the third and final day.

“I was slow rolling the Osprey next to log booms floating over 245 feet of water,” Wood said. “The bass were suspended about 5 feet under the logs.”

On the third day, Wood stuck with the Osprey swimbait, but he had to cover miles of water to fill the 9-8 limit that secured his victory and earned a $5,000 purse.

“I burned 27 gallons of gas today to catch six bass,” Wood said. “I only burned 6 gallons the first day. I believe all the fishing pressure pushed the big bass off the points I was fishing. That’s why I couldn’t catch them with my Huddleston swimbait.”

Chuck Harrison of Ft Collins, Colo., caught his third three-bass limit of the tournament today. It weighed 6-10 and brought his total catch to 19-2. That proved enough to win the nonboater division and a $2,500 cash award. The Top 21 boaters and nonboaters also received cash prizes.

Eleven Western states brought 20-angler teams to the tournament. They competed to win top state honors and to qualify for the Academy Sports + Outdoors B.A.S.S. Nation Championship presented by Magellan. Today, the top boater and nonboater from each state qualified for that championship, which takes place at Lake Hartwell, South Carolina, Oct. 19-21.

A Big Bass Award of $500 went to Bryson Mort of Post Falls, Idaho, for the 8-5 trophy spotted bass he caught on the second day of the tournament. Mike Powell of Midway, Utah, received the Big Bass Award of $250 in the nonboater division for catching a 4-9 bass.

Florida Angler John Cox Grabs Second-Round Lead In Bassmaster Open On Chickamauga

Florida Angler John Cox Grabs Second-Round Lead In Bassmaster Open On Chickamauga

DAYTON, Tenn. — Friday is “Moving Day” in each of the nine Bass Pro Shops Bassmaster Opens held throughout the year.

When an angler makes a mark on the first day, continued success on Friday almost always is the difference in surviving the cut to 12 or heading home.

Few anglers have moved around more than John Cox in the Bass Pro Shops Bassmaster Southern Open No. 2 on Chickamauga Lake. And he’s moving right up the leaderboard because of his versatility.

Cox, a pro from Debary, Fla., said he’s covered just about every inch of this 38,000-acre impoundment of the Tennessee River over the past two days. And while that’s obviously hyperbole, what’s not an overstatement is his lead in this three-day tournament.

Cox boated the second-heaviest bag of the day — a 25-pound, 7-ounce limit of five bass that gave him a two-day total of 47-13. That haul has him in a prime position to win the tournament and the bounty of prizes that come with victory, including a Triton/Mercury boat-motor package worth $40,000, $8,000 cash, and most importantly, a berth in the 2018 GEICO Bassmaster Classic presented by DICK’S Sporting Goods.

On Thursday, Cox said Chickamauga has been a perplexing study. And despite his lead, he didn’t change his tune after Friday’s weigh-in at the Dayton Boat Dock.

“It’s amazing how much this area changes from day to day,” Cox said. “A spot I think is going to have clean water will have dirty water, and the next day it’s clean. So I just keep moving.”

Cox’s biggest bass on Friday weighed 8-15, and he caught the fat female on 8-pound-test line. He said the big bass ran with his lure and put up a big fight.

“I had to chase her like a tarpon,” he said. “I thought I was going to have a heart attack. I was having pains.”

Cox won $250 as the Livingston Lures Day 2 Leader. The other 11 anglers who made the cut and will compete on Saturday include Hunter Shryock (second, 44-5); Shaw Grigsby (third, 42-6); Michael Neal (fourth, 41-0); Ish Monroe (fifth, 40-0); Wayne Hauser Jr. (sixth, 38-12); Sam George (tied at seventh, 37-3); and Brandon Lester (seventh, 37-3); Justin Lucas (ninth, 35-14); Bill Weidler (10th, 35-13); Josh Douglas (tie 11th,  35-5); and Wes Logan (12th, 35-5.)

The nearly 400 pros and co-anglers competing in this Southern Open dodged rainstorms throughout the day, but the intermittently foul weather did little to disturb the extremely heavy bites that have been routine on “The Chick” in recent months.

Shryock, Thursday’s leader, was strong again Friday with a five-bass limit that weighed 18 pounds, 14 ounces. The Ohio pro is just 3 pounds and change behind Cox, and is fishing with confidence after making the Top 12 at the first Southern Open of the season on Florida’s Harris Chain of Lakes in January.

Shryock said his brother (Bassmaster Elite Series pro Fletcher Shryock) texted him Thursday night and told him to stick to what he does best — sight fishing. He followed big brother’s advice and found the big females he needed to punch his ticket to Saturday’s final round.

“I went shallow,” Shryock said. “It’s intimidating when you come to a TVA lake and you see 90 percent of the anglers fishing offshore, and you’re one of the few guys in there still sight fishing. I found a new area that had some new fish in it. I feel like there (are some bass) that still are coming up to spawn. You see some of these fish that are full of eggs. I don’t think it’s the happening deal, but there are enough fish for me. I’ll find my five bites and miss the 40 bites that everyone else is getting.”

Grigsby continued to sight fish as he did on Thursday, and the technique netted him a bag that weighed 17-5 and earned him a spot in the Top 12. He was in second place after Thursday, though he dropped to third without the benefit of the 9-12 lunker he boated Thursday.

“I had some nice fish today, but not one of those really big ones that are out there,” the veteran Florida pro said. “There are 11- and 12-pounders to be caught. You get one of those tomorrow, who knows what happens?”

Neal is from Dayton, Tenn., and he is the hometown favorite. He made the final 12 despite not catching a bass heavier than 5 pounds so far in the Southern Open. He’s catching transitioning bass that are heading from the banks to offshore spots, and hopes to do more of the same tomorrow.

He said consistency is key to succeeding on Chickamauga, and he’s shown it with catches of about 23 and 18 pounds. Still, he’d love for a heavyweight to anchor his bag on Saturday.

“I had 11 pounds with an hour to go, and was able to cull up to 18,” he said. “If I can get one of those big 9- or 10-pounders we’ve seen, I’ve got a chance to win this thing.”

North Carolina’s Hauser is in sixth place with another steady bag (19-13) on Friday. He said he’s catching bass on three different patterns and is prepared for anything on Saturday.

“I have no idea what it’s going to take, but hopefully I have enough,” Hauser said. “Making the Classic is a life-long goal. I’ve got a chance, so we’ll see what happens.”

Alabama’s Sam George vaulted into seventh place with a limit that weighed 26-2, which was the heaviest bag of the day. George’s catch included a 10-pounder, and he said he lost an 8-pounder at the boat. As he worked his way back to the Dayton Boat Dock, he said he saw two more fish that were in the 9-pound range.

“Honestly, if I had a couple more hours today, I think I could have cracked 40 (pounds),” he said. “This lake is just incredible.”

Florida pro Darrell Davis had the big bass of the day — a monster 11-5 female he caught in a driving rainstorm at about 2 p.m. That catch put him in the lead for the Phoenix Boats Big Bass Award. The angler with the heaviest fish of the tournament wins a $750 award.

The 12 co-anglers who will compete on Saturday are Zach Clark (first, 22-12;) Alan Woodford (second, 22-8;) Barry Stalcup (third, 21-12;) Randy Gardner (fourth, 19-14;) Tim Patterson (fifth, 19-13;) Chuck Thurlow (sixth, 19-5;) Taylor Stumbo (seventh, 19-2;) Garrett Geouge (eighth, 19-1;) Roy Hurst Jr. (ninth, 19-0;) Fred Rigdon (10th, 18-6;) David Gladden II (11th, 17-5;) and Josh Jackson (12th, 16-11.)

Zack Clark is in the lead in the co-angler division with 22-12. The winning co-angler earns a Triton/Mercury boat-motor package. The Top 40 pros and co-anglers in the Southern Open No. 2 earn checks for their showing.

The Rhea County (Tenn.) Economic Development and Tourism Council is hosting the Bass Pro Shops Bassmaster Southern Open No. 2. Anglers from 27 different states and countries are entered in this three-day event.

Saturday’s takeoff is scheduled for 6:45 a.m. from Dayton Boat Dock, though the final day weigh-in will move to the Bass Pro Shops location at 1000 Bass Pro Drive in East Ridge, Tenn. Weigh-in is scheduled to begin at 3:45 p.m.

EVINRUDE ANGLERS DOMINATE 2017 FISHING LEAGUE WORLDWIDE TOURNAMENT

EVINRUDE ANGLERS DOMINATE 2017 FISHING LEAGUE WORLDWIDE TOURNAMENT

STURTEVANT, Wis., April 21, 2017 – BRP, a world leader in powersports, announced today its domination of the Fishing League Worldwide (FLW) tournament held April 6-9, 2017 on Lake Cumberland in Kentucky. Scott Martin lead the field with his record-breaking eighth FLW Tour victory, winning the $125,000 prize. Including Martin, seven of the top ten anglers were powered by Evinrude outboards. Evinrude angler Bryan Thrift currently leads the Angler of the Year points total.

After leading day one of the event, then falling back to fifth place on day two, Martin battled back to regain his lead on the final day with a four-day total of 60 pounds, 1 ounce. During his 18-year career he has won Tour events in Florida, Mississippi, New York, Arkansas, Maryland and
now Kentucky.

“My strategy in the past would be to run down the lake and only fish places where I’d had bites in practice,” said Martin. “I’ve learned to have enough confidence in myself that I’m willing to fish places I’d never fished before. My Evinrude E-TEC G2 outboard allows me to run faster and farther than my competitors and that has made all the difference to win tournaments. I can focus 100% of my thoughts on finding the winning fish each day and not be distracted or need to worry about the performance or reliability of my ETEC G2. I also feel good knowing that my Evinrude engine is at least 75% cleaner than any other gas-powered outboard on the water. Evinrude’s ETEC G2 delivers the performance I demand, while at the same time helping to protect and preserve the environment that is vital to this sport.”

“All of us at Evinrude congratulate Scott on his outstanding performance and well-deserved win,” said Olivier Pierini, Evinrude director of global marketing and strategic planning. “We are proud to provide the engines relied on by so many top anglers. When your livelihood comes down to seconds, Evinrude E-TEC G2 engines deliver the torque and fuel economy needed to get you
to the podium.”

The 2017 FLW Tour continues on April 27-30 at Beaver Lake, Arkansas.

BRP’s Evinrude engine line up, from 3.5 to 300 HP, offers customers superior value across a full range of applications. The all-new Evinrude E-TEC G2 engines are now available from 150 to 300 HP. Engines are available at authorized Evinrude dealerships worldwide. Follow Evinrude on Facebook at www.facebook.com/brpevinrude.

CASHION FISHING RODS SPRING TEAM TOURNAMENT BASS TRAIL FINAL QUALIFIER #5
Saturday April 15th, 2017 ~  ~ Falls Lake ~ ~ Ledge Rock Wildlife Ramp

[print_link]

53 boats arrived on a beautiful day to fish the final Cashion Fishing Rods Spring Team Tournament Bass Trail Qualifier #5 at Falls Lake. The April weather was great with winds very light in the am and up to 10 mph in the  afternoon, the air temps ranged from 60 to 80 and the water level was about normal. Surface water temps averaged 70 degrees and the water was a little dingy on the I-85 end but clearer towards the dam. The bite was not really that great with the main reasons being high pressure, huge shad spawn, huge carp spawn and bass spawning also. It should all be over in the next few weeks hopefully!

The veteran team of Billy Bledsoe & Brian McDonald weighed in 5 nice bass weighing a total of 21.83 lbs to take 1st Place and 1st Place TWT for a total of $2,050 in winnings! The team will also be collecting $3,000 from Skeeter boats and over $100 from TH Marine in Contingency awards!!

 Bledsoe on left & McDonald

The 2nd Place team of Jaime Fajardo & Josh Hooks caught 5 bass weighing 20.15 lbs. and took home $594 in winnings. The 3rd Place team of Matt Harrison & Angela Bishop brought to the scales 5 bass weighing 19.31 lbs. taking home $510 in winnings. Big fish for the day was caught by Bobby Matthews of Durham (6.28 lbs.) worth $530 !!

Only 108 bass were brought to the scales for a total of 291 pounds averaging 2.70 lbs. each which is way off for Falls Lake! It’s just that time of year.  Spinnerbaits, jig & pigs, chatterbaits and small crankbaits in the more shallow water again seemed to be the lures of choice.

I want to thank Cashion Fishing Rods and all the anglers that participated. The Cashion Fishing Rods Spring Bass Trail Championship will be held June 10th at Falls for those teams that qualified. Our next tournament will be the 2017 Piedmont Bass Classics $10,000 Spring Team Bass Trail Qualifier #4 , Saturday April 22nd at Kerr Lake out of Flemingtown Landing Wildlife Ramp.  The following Saturday, April 29th, will be the 28th Annual Tobacco Bass Invitational Tournament also at Kerr Lake.  All the information on our tournaments and dates can be found
